Something about a clearly racist role he once played? Educate us please?

9. yep
and really, all he has to do is show his hard-line conservative self... the GOP may make him their candidate and the moderate public will shun him.... as long as we put forth someone moderate enough.

proof he can be a "reasonable" moderate.

29. His Looks ...
... Yes, I'm going to be shallow ... but I agree, he does look like a lizard.

Frankly, he comes quite close to being just plain ugly.

My hunch is that despite the Repugs desire for a 'new' face in the contest for their nomination, Thompson is going to turn out to be a dud.

But Dirt on Republicans doesn't really matter because generally speaking Democrats/progressives don't have the guts or the meanness to capitalize on it. We tend to focus on boring things like issues.

13. For this Presidential Election, I'm willing to make a few exceptions ...
and hope that I don't turn into the enemy.

However, we can keep honest but stand our ground. Stay Strong! ;)

Sorry, but I can't be the only person who does NOT like this man. It's far from scientific but he's just not likable to those of us who don't worship authority figures.

perhaps because I did have a "creepy Uncle" who looked much like him.

Let's hope more people stop idolizing Authority Figures and have creepy uncles whom their parents shielded them from?  :hi:

But, just because you and I don't like him doesn't mean the fundie nuts and moderate Heartlanders don't.

But the question remains. Why do you think Republicans go ape shit when a conservative actor runs for office? Is it that they feel a celebrity, regardless of brain power has an easier chance of winning? Do they enjoy style over substance?

11. Ever heard about the Savings & Loan Scandal in the 1980s & 90s?
Thank Fred for being a lobbyist for the S & Ls because he helped to
"grease the wheels" to get deregulation passed through Congress.

Billions of dollars went to bail out that scam.

Deregulation allowed the S & Ls to run wild and people
stole billions. Neil Bush's Silverado cost more money than
all the bank robberies in history.

23. James Dobson doesn't think he is a real Christian
Well, James Dobson Is Right, Fred Thompson Is NOT A Christian!

Posted by healtheland on March 30th, 2007

Thompson’s ”church” believes in the baptismal regeneration heresy. So, Dobson was right because that equates to salvation by works, and makes them a pseudo - Christian cult. Now you have a lot of sanctimonious folk who are protesting against Dobson for “deciding who is a Christian and who isn’t”, well let me tell you folks, you all are going to bust hell wide open if you keep doing this mess, because it isn’t US who says that Thompson isn’t a Christian, and it isn’t US who says that Mormon Mitt Romney isn’t a Christian, but it is the BIBLE, ok? You you generation of vipers, is it the Bible that you have a problem with, or us for believing in it? Thanks to Independent Conservative for setting me straight on this one. Another great thing about Dobson is that I have not seen him active in this “Christian Zionists who do not proselytize Jews” nonsense.

But make no mistake: though Dobson is CORRECT in opposing false Christians like Thompson and Romney, he is still sullied by his overall political activities, including his promoting Gingrich. And it is amazing how so many of the “social conservatives” are throwing their hats in the ring behind either Mormom Mitt Romney or Fred Thompson, KNOWING that their beliefs are not Christian. It just shows that these people are only after seeking a winner who will keep the money and power coming, and not after standing for God and the Bible. Which is why I still say that you are better off turning away from all of these folks and going after God.

34. As a Tennessean, he holds real appeal to the knuckle-draggers
His appeal is those who love the folksy southern drawl and the scripted "freedom freedom freedom, terra terra terra" crowd.

However

Ask those of us who care to think on our own about Senator Thompson and most everyone will say he was the most useless Senator we have ever had. He accomplished nothing, absolutely nothing, in his tenure aside from getting to wear the title "Senator". He was away from work and missed more votes than Harold Ford, Jr. did in Congress (yet somehow, that was what the Republicans drove home with regards to Ford in the last election). His office was generally unresponsive to the point that most people wondered openly why we even had a second Senator, because at least with Frist you knew he wouldn't pass up an opportunity to regurgitate talking points.

Thompson is an empty-suit, selected by the G.O.P. because he has that folksy draw that the idiots in our society are drawn to. All talk, no substance. Now we see why the G.O.P. gravitates to actors as candidates, even though they wouldn't miss a beat tearing down Hollywood.

40. Sadly enough, you speak the truth
The fact that they voted for Corker in the last election made me realize just how much of our state is filled with idiocy. Therefore, they'll clamor all for Fred Thompson as being "our good ole' southern boy" and push the button for him without knowing a thing about him (aside from "Freedom, Freedom, Freedom, Terra, Terra, Terra" and Law & Order).

Just like Bush says lies over and over and over until people start to believe them. In many states there is probably 10 or 15% who will just believe the "Hollywood Liberal" label is true.
