Friends of Scooter Libby Fear He'll Be Sent Immediately to Jail

http://www.usnews.com/usnews/blogs/news_blog/070530/friends_of_scooter_libby_fear.htm

When Lewis "Scooter" Libby is sentenced next month for his involvement in the Valerie Plame-CIA spy scandal, friends and legal allies fear that he will immediately be shipped to jail.

"I think that he will get some jail time and probably be sent away that day," said a member of the Libby Legal Defense Fund.

Libby's supporters plan to make the case again that the prosecution was politically motivated, spun out of control, and ended up nailing someone who wasn't even the leaker of Plame's name in the case. Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, however, has already dismissed those claims and added that Libby has shown no remorse for his acts. Fitzgerald is expected to push for a sentence of up to three years in prison for obstruction.

4. Friends of Scooter Libbey should fear his finding God while in the hole
As often happens when a person is finally punished for wrong doing he may turn a new leaf. And he might start talking. Could be good for Scoot's soul but bad for neo-CONS.

Hey, Barbara, is that you?

In the meantime, >Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald, however, has already dismissed those claims and added that Libby has shown no remorse for his acts.<

I'm sure we'll see attacks on Mr. Fitzgerald (BTW, US World and News Report, his official title is "Special Counsel," NOT "Special Prosecutor",) in the right-wing press over the next week that make their comments earlier this year seem affectionate.

Can't wait till June 5th!

10. Immediate imprisonment for 2 1/2 yrs could convince Scooter to be more forthcoming...
Nothing like hearing those heavy metal doors shut every night to convince you that cooperating might not be such a bad idea --especially if there is no hope of a pardon anytime soon.

12. Did Scoots' buddies give a rat's ass about Valerie Plame,
Brewster Jennings, or anyone associated even peripherally with that operation when I. Lewis Libby decided to drop a dime on a clandestine CIA agent? Their lives were in immediate danger after he blew her cover; at least Scoots will still be sucking oxygen, getting three squares & a cot on which he can flop his neocon bag of guts at the end of the day!

I'm opposed to the death penalty, but Scoots needs to thank his lucky stars that he didn't get convicted of treason - the ideal legal outcome IMO. He may well have met the fate that met other traitors to national security.

Well if that is the case he could save his one neck and give up the person or persons who were. It is real simple. Don't take the fall for someone else. I guess I don't know blind loyalty. But if my ass was going to jail and I did not do it, I would be giving up who did. But he is still guilty, he is obstructing justice by not telling the truth.

21. Judge Walton
may make the "letters of support" for Scooter part of the public record. That has Team Libby and the necroconservatives rather upset. They are planning an "offensive" to begin on sentencing day, and to churn out dis- and misinformation through the summer months.

Judge Walton tends to be very conservative. His interpretation of the law frequently is rather rigid. This had concerned some progressive democrats when he was assigned the Libby case. Myself and others believed it would work against Scooter, and it did. It's a giile that the necroconservatives can't blame a "liberal judge."

Well, yeah, douchebags. That's what a sentencing for a convicted felon usually looks like!

Your friend is a convicted felon. He is being sentenced for having committed a felony. Expect that he will get prison time under federal guidelines! Fucking duh.

32. Hey there!
Long time no hear from.

Hope all is well in Binka world!

The treatment "poor Libby" receives from the press is remarkable. They behave as if he hasn't been duly convicted of a serious felony in a federal criminal court. "Friends fear he'll be sent to jail." I should hope not. I hope he'll be sent to fucking federal PRISON, where he belongs.
