TB scare
Edited on Wed May-30-07 01:56 PM by undergroundpanther
Drug resistant TB has been around a LONG time. This "scare" is OLD NEWS.The only newsworthy thing about it is the guy with TB could afford to fly all over the place.

July 19, 1985 / 34(28);429-31

Epidemiologic Notes and Reports Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis among the Homeless -- Boston

In the period February 1984-March 1985, 26 confirmed cases of tuberculosis (TB) were reported among homeless people in Boston (Figure 1). All 26 cases have been associated with three large shelters. The estimated total population of homeless people in Boston is 6,000. Nineteen of the 26 cases were counted in 1984; this represents an incidence of 316.7 per 100,000, a greater than sixfold increase over the 1983 case rate of approximately 50.0/100,000. By comparison, the TB case rate for the rest of Boston in 1984 was 19.0/100,000, and the rate for Massachusetts excluding Boston was 4.8/100,000.

This time, what I think has got the CDC in a twist it didn't JUST infect a homeless person..maybe that's what the hubbub 's really about,Gasp rich people might be in danger!!! This idiot while sick decided to fly on a trans national flight.Fuck, if I was sick I'd just stay the fuck home because unless my house is on fire or it's real danger I ain't doing shit until I get better.

So,, if some idiot who's sick just HAS to fly somewhere...Do we now call the National Guard??..ooh I forgot. They are all in Iraq..Call in the Black water mercenaries to clean up the streets, than? Put some of that 'ol time compassionate coercion in action?! One thug prays while the others slay... is that how the Black water jaysus thugs can sleep at night? TB of all types has been killing the homeless, prisoners and mental hospital patients for YEARS..Why does it take a rich person infecting other well off people (mostly rich or at least middle class, I who can afford to fly all over the place really?)..to get attention drawn to this TB issue.
Also If people connect TB to homelessness like they go hand in hand, it raises even MORE paranoia and hate twords the poor and homeless people as if they themselves are contaminates or vermin..THe Homeless have alot of stuff they face,Alot are vets and they are traumatized so they go homeless to crawl in a bottle and die, So if getting beaten up by teens following a stupid hateful fad ,harassed by cops all the time for"loitering"(no home where can you exist?),All these pointy metal anti sit devices on every sit-able spot, benches with dividers so you cannot sleep there..,no public bathrooms so ya get arrested for pissing in an alley..( D'oh no home no toidy pot),and everyone groaning when you get on the bus because there is no SHOWER.. If all THAT..isn't enough??
Now it's the homeless are disease carriers.. fear..

Ooh the paranoid NIMBY cry,of the ignorant and comfortable..Not in my neighborhood, are you going to put a shelter..a home..(totally oblivious homeless people exist even in "nice neighborhoods" like theirs already, they are just "invisible"..They screech to zoning boards and politicians get those diseased infectious homeless bums away from MEEE!!!!..OOoga Booga Mentally ill, TB infected scary, scary poor people gonna getcha, and take yer STUFF. Ooooh.Boo! JayyeeeZZZusChhhryst on a hockey puck!

In Baltimore there is a resource page set up if you know anyone out here that's homeless.

And these heroes deserve recognition not arrest.

Enough...

And lastly everyone I hope is aware Bush has changed alot of laws about OUR civil liberties in the name of public"health". Maybe this Quarantine is a "test run" to see how the public takes to the idea of medical martial law?
That's what I think this shit is all about underneath the propaganda.

1. the story is that he DID travel
and any epidemiologist will tell you that traveling by plane in this manner would be a very effective way to transmit a pathogen of this nature. And a lot of people on those planse and that THEY have now come in contact with aren't the 'evil-rich'. It could be a very big deal that this ass-munch went against the recommendation of health officials to not travel...and then to check into a hospital in Italy...and then to SNEAK f***ing home.

4. There's no law against being an ass munch
and no law stating you must do what your doctor recommends, even if it means you selfishly risk infecting others for no better reason than you can have fun.

Did he put a lot of people at risk? Maybe, CNN just said his infection rate is very low. I don't see the need for armed guards outside his hospital room or any reason for him to be detained in any way. Life has risks, some we can control and others we can't. Not flying would substantially cut those risks without interfering with anyone else's right to fly.

5. it wasn't his doctor...it was the county health office, i believe
and while his CURRENT infection rate may be very low...infecting ONE person with a life threatening disease that you KNOW you have is tantamount to murder...just ask someone about being infected by AIDS intentionally...

6. "just ask someone about being infected by AIDS intentionally"
Happens every day. Should we lock up everyone with HIV?

8. Good. Glad to hear it.
There is still no legal basis for the TB-infected guy to be detained. He was advised not to fly, not ordered. Maybe they can change that but for now he is legally in the clear.

I'm just not afraid enough of being infected with something nasty to condone taking rights away from fellow citizens.

11. nice to hear since YOU were not seated next to this man
Edited on Wed May-30-07 03:12 PM by ProdigalJunkMail
or were you and you are just confident enough that this could not be transmitted to you? He may be legally in the clear...never disputed that...he was not ordered to fly...but he SHOULD have been ordered (and prevented) and NOW he SHOULD be charged with AT least reckless endangerment (one count for each person with 2 rows of him since that is who the CDC wants to test plus the flight crews). In my opinion, while he may have been in an early and not-so-contagious stage, he is more dangerous than someone with a gun. A gun may only wound you...but this strain killed 52 out of 53 infected in Africa a couple of years ago.

10. He was told not to travel and he did. He knowingly risked the health of everyone around him.
Edited on Wed May-30-07 03:04 PM by AZBlue
His new wife, his family, everyone at that wedding, everyone he encountered during his travels around Europe and everyone on that plane. I think he's irresponsible, self-centered and a big jerk (that's not all I think of him, but I can't write what I really think, it's against the rules).

2. They sure are making a big deal out of this.
One guy with TB? Didn't they say it probably couldn't be transmitted? What's the rumpus?

3. Bush and Rove Are Trying Again!
It's really quite simple.

Bush and Rove are trying again.

They are trying to instill FEAR in all of us.

They are softening us (and the media) to the thought that "the terrorists" can bring ruin upon us by getting a REALLY SICK person with an INCURABLE disease on an airplane and have them enter the US.

It's just ANOTHER excuse to give Bush and Rove and Cheney the opportunity to take EVEN MORE of our rights away from us.

It is all about FEAR!!
