Al Gore--It's kinda like the Dog that Didn't Bark. Anybody else weirded out? |
|
Edited on Wed May-30-07 07:56 PM by Jackpine Radical
I don't watch TV, so I can't be sure of how well-founded this observation is, but I've been looking online at video segments from CBS and elsewhere, and I can't believe it; Gore seems to be getting long, respectful interviews, conducted by reasonable interviewers, in which he is permitted to get his general thesis across in some depth. There are non-snarky mentions of his Oscar and of the possibility of a Nobel Prize. What's going on? Why isn't the wolfpack snarling at his heels, trying to pull him down with accusations of being boring? Why do they let him defend net neutrality without re-running the fraudulent nonsense about him inventing the internet? How can they let him talk about global warming without reprising Love Canal?
I don't get it, and I'm nervous. Maybe they're just saving their ammo and waiting to see if he declares, but I think their corporate masters would see him as too big a risk to allow running around loose and rabble-rousing even if he doesn't declare.

1. Valid fears but the majority are against Bushco and |
|
they really want to hear Gore. People are afraid of Bush and Cheney.

2. They're trying to lure him in. |

Hoping he'll run for President so they can get back to their old tricks.

3. Perhaps the corporate masters |
|
Have found themselves frightened of something other than Veeps from the mountains who seem too smart.
Wars - and War Presidents - tend to end right around the time that the money men decide that all that killing might be bad for business.

5. That's a fascinating observation. |
|
Could it be that big oil is afraid of Al, and giving him too much attention? That by remaining silent, they don't give it more publicity?

8. It's true, they'd be rougher on him if he were an active candidate. |
|
That's one of the reasons it's good for him to wait as long as reasonably possible to announce.
But I think that this time around, he'll be able to handle whatever they dish out. He's prepared.

9. He understands how current media operate, and he's not officially |
|
running. His slapping down of Sawyer may have had a chilling affect on the other "journalists".

11. Re the slapping down of Sawyer, I agree. Al is finally free to be |
|
Al Gore. He has a clear message and a mission. Since he is not running, he has nothing to fear from corporate media weenies. If fact it's the opposite -- they need to be careful not to raise his ire. YES!

14. Maureen Dowd is still on the case.. |
|
She wrote a column in the last week that talked about his weight.Of course we can always count on MoDo to be the bitch sitting in the corner of the school cafeteria making vicious fun of anybody who isn't in her posse.... And David Brooks has just done his best to trash his new book in a column. (Brooks comes off as a fool.) And then there's Tweety with the endless Al Gore Fat Jokes. Don't be too nervous. The dogs are barking ... just not so much, YET. I'd like to think that the echo chamber won't be so noisy this time around, because the talking heads can't deny his popularity or his effectiveness at this point.

16. They see Gore has respect and influence with the people. They're afraid. |
|
First of all there is an absolute need for a break up of the media companies.
Second, there is no one who knows this better than Gore.
They're probably thinking that if they kiss ass now, he won't demand this in the future. That's the way they operate. They think that their touch is gold but fail to notice that people really despise them. Their influence has never been lower, yet they act like they're power brokers.
Anyone elected president who thinks that he/she can allow these five media oligarchies to survive is not in touch with reality.
Break them up, create smaller units, more diversity, more competition.

18. They've been snarking and sneering on MSNBC's "Tucker" and on CNN |
|
plus the daily Whore Team who do the features. If you don't watch cable you don't see the stuff...and you are better off. If you are a political junkie and media watcher...well it's like a repeat of our last elections. Snark against Dems...white gloves for Repugs and snark, smear, innuendo and the rest.
No reports of the Crime & Scandal of the Repugs....while Democrats are held up to ridicule by association with Clinton. Although Hillary seems to be divorced from Bill's Monica problems for now...
Anyway. Gore's not getting any free pass. They were claiming Gore won't tell anyone if he's running because he is Selling his Book and that creates interest in him. Implied is that he wont come in because he's just a "Book Whore."
Then there's MoDo's calling him the "Goracle and talking about him shoveling in the clam dip at a reception..and other comments about his weight.
He's not getting a free pass...but it's mild to what will be coming.
