HEADLINE: "President arrives to hecklers"...knock me over with a feather!
Is the American press finally turning on Chimpolini?

President arrives to hecklers

EDISON -- As protesters chanted, "Hey Bush we know you -- you're a thief, a liar and a killer, too!" the presidential motorcade sped Wednesday into Raritan Center for a GOP fundraiser. Shortly after 5 p.m., President Bush arrived at the New Jersey Convention and Exposition Center to raise money for the state Republican Party and was jeered and heckled by approximately 150 protesters who had gathered for a rally in a nearby parking lot....

Perhaps the most moving item held by protesters was a long string from which 54 placards hung each with the face, name and hometown of a New Jersey soldier who died in the Iraq war thus far. The placards also listed how each was killed.

The rally was sponsored by New Jersey Citizen Action and Americans Against Escalation in Iraq. The broad-based coalition of organizations and associations was joined by Edison Mayor Jun Choi, state Sen. Barbara Buono, D-Middlesex, Rep. Frank Pallone, D-Long Branch, and Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, D-Union, in the parking lot. Serving as a backdrop was a school bus painted red, white and blue with the slogan "Bus for Change." The bus is piloted by a small grass-roots group of anti-Bush citizens. Choi, a Democrat, asked Edison police to escort the protesters down to an intersection where they could be seen and heard by the motorcade.

"I sure hope this is the last time President Bush comes to Edison," Choi said. "Our country is at a crossroads, and the real issues that really matter for working families, the backbone of our country, from education to health care, they're not being addressed. In fact, it's going in the opposite direction. And then you also have the worst foreign policy ever in U.S. history. You add that combo together, and it's devastating for a country."

The opposition didn't mince words. "President Bush is the worst president I've seen in my lifetime -- bar none," said 56-year-old Maplewood resident Bennet Zurofsky, "and from my study of history, the worst of all time." MORE>>>>>>>

2. So, they were actually allowed to protest
...within his sight? He was forced to see them? How sad is it that that is a rarity? Most times, the "Free Speech Zone" is far out of Mr. Man's eyeline.

5. That popped into my head also. We have had 6 years of
these small things going on but set aside so Bush would not see them. I guess that was the reason. He could not get away from them on the way to his ranch but in a general way we have heard that only miles away were people let to get in a mass to do this.

7. That was my first impression as well...in the past, protests have
Edited on Thu May-31-07 05:47 AM by rasputin1952
been pretty far back from where bush can see or hear them...x(

Shows me that the power to remove the people from the equation has finally been broken. I ope he felat like crap...it is rough when you finally have to realize people just downright hate you and your philosophies.

8. My first thought too. This is quite a change from standing in a
"Free Speech Zone" half a mile from his route.

16. The mechanisms in place for WH to take over government in emergency
Now all they need is cover for the emergency they will contrive.

There are dark reasons protests are being allowed, I fear.

6. The American people need to protest like this everywhere Bush goes
We need to let him know what the real situation is.
The republicans will find out soon enough when the Democrats clean up in 2008
I wish our Democratic leadership in the House would bring articles of impeachment against Heir Bush.

15. The American People DO protest like this EVERYWHERE bush* goes.
You just aren't aware of it thanks to the CorpoMedia AND the SILENCE from the Democratic Party Leadership.

Next time Bush* appears in your area, just SHOW UP. There will be a group of protesters there.

9. My paternal grandma used to say
A liar is a thief and a theif is a murderer. I thought of her immediately when I saw this.

"Hey Bush we know you -- you're a thief, a liar and a killer, too!"

The more people who say this, the sooner this war criminal is in chains.

11. This makes my heart happy.
This needs to be done everywhwere he goes. He needs to see first hand that the American people are not behind him. Of course to his little pea brain it won't make much difference, but he still needs to see it.

23. I just realized from the article
The Mayor of Edison did this:

(Mayor) Choi, a Democrat, asked Edison police to escort the protesters down to an intersection where they could be seen and heard by the motorcade.

Now that's a Mayor!
