The only way to be part of a successful antiwar effort is to REALLY commit to withdrawal, no efforts to find a middle ground, the middle ground we all know doesn't EXIST here. The party needs to embrace the antiwar side and defend us under fire, especially if its going to demand that we follow it on major policy leads.

It's time to face reality. To rephrase Jim Hightower, there's nothing in the middle of the Iraq road but smoldering fragments of armadillos.

1. What you call "triangulation" (a word with negative connotation)

some call compromise. I applaud efforts to find middle ground--I applaud bipartisanship. That's the way it's going to end, because that's political reality in a two-party Congress with Dems in a slim majority.

6. Compromise is one thing. But on getting out of Iraq, there IS no "middle ground".
You either admit it was a mistake and get out, or you unquestioningly defend the status quo. There's nothing else. Period.

2. It's kind of a pisser
Republicans and Conservatives have, in a way, been preparing the ground for this since the fall of Vietnam. The Party is spooked, and likely to remain so.

4. The Democratic Party has made it pretty clear that it is not a "left" party.
It is not an "anti-war" or "anti-occupation" party. It is a centrist party that leans right on many issues and leans left on other issues. It is an imperialist party, but one that claims more 'humanity' than the other one. Currently, there is no effective party representation for the anti-war movement and leftists are decidedly on their own.

7. i agree.
i'm bone tired of it all.

senseless death of innocent people isn't a game of partisan politics. if you're not trying to end it you're either guilty of neglect for being ignorant of the current state of affairs or guilty of murder by proxy.

i have no patience for ANY politician regardless of party affiliation who dickers around with human lives for the sake of political expedience. it does not fly with me because there is no excuse for not trying to prevent more lives being lost. bring them home now or consider yourself a murdering piece of shit.
