News Anchors Pretending to be Poor
Why do some news anchors act like they are poor and cannot afford anything? I am not talking about the local news anchors, but the national news anchors. This morning I saw a portion of the CBS Morning News. A segment on the convertibles that did well on the crash tests had just been completed. The anchor doing the segment made a comment about a comment about the one of the cars. I think he was saying to the lady who was doing the segment with him that she could take one of the cars and he would take the other. The lady then made a comment which I cannot really remember, but right after that Hannah Storm raised her hand and said I want one. Maybe Storm was just trying to come across as if she really like the car, but my impression of it was that Storm was acting as if she could not afford the car and needed someone to give it to her. It seems to me that news anchors from all the major news channels try to act like they or poor or middle class. It seems to me that they act like they cannot afford all types of things that they actually can afford.

Are these news anchors trying to connect with middle class and poor people? Do they just think people do not know how much they make per year? Is it that they just like getting things free even though they can afford them. I think Matt Lauer has acted like he cannot afford a Lamborghini, even though he makes more than enough to buy a Lamborghini. With his salary Lauer could buy about seven Lamborghinis. I think other news anchors have done similar things. So, does anyone know why they do this.

2. Short answer...
"We're like you."

Currently, there is a series intellectually insulting billboard ads running for a local news show with lines like, "It's about the truth", "It's about community". Another proclaims, "People you can trust". :puke:

A bunch of failed actors reading off a teleprompter. What's to trust? They give a shit about their make-up.

3. They are hired at least partly on
their "folksiness" and ability to attract the widest audience. Thus, they put on the "I'm just like you" act, and you're right. Everyone with half a brain knows they're about as sincere as a used-car salesman, but that's how the game is played.

Same thing with game show hosts giving away money. They act like it's a huge deal when they're about to award say, 10 grand. Of course it is a big deal to the contestant, but to them it's pocket change.

5. I guess it's all about disposable income.

They don't have much left over after the outlay for hair care products, botox, and dental work. :eyes:

9. The irony there is that most don't want or need the goodie bag contents...
but who is going to turn down an obvious freebie?

Some actors/actresses have donated their goodie bags to charity.

7. Would you rather have them talking about the tons of money they make?
And bragging about their new cars and vacations and fancy clothes and jewelry?

I'm fairly well off. I know most people are not. So I don't talk about the things I have because I don't want to make other people feel bad. I was taught it's just bad form to brag.

13. Just Do Not Talk About It
They should just not talk about the stuff they have. They do not have to tell people they just bought a new $100,000 car. However, they do not need to act like they cannot afford a $50,000 car when they make $7-$20 million a year. I just do not see why some of the major news anchors have to act like they are poor. I think most people know they are millionaires. I do not have a problems with them being able to buy nice things I just do not like them pretending they cannot afford anything.

11. The truth about the middle class.
The poor think they are richer than they are, and the rich think they are poorer than they are.
