Andrew Speaker-TB guy's FIL works for the CDC, he's microbiologist in the control and prevention lab
Updated: 43 minutes ago
ATLANTA - The father-in-law of the tuberculosis patient under the first federal quarantine since 1963 works as a microbiologist at a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention laboratory that studies TB and other bacterial infections.

10. Absolutely no one is claiming he had infected everyone on the
plane.
They aren't even giving TB tests to everyone on the plane, only to those who sat close to him.

2. Wonder if he ever visited his FIL at work?
Makes me wonder...I wouldn't think that rare forms of TB were simply floating around the atmosphere -- that's why they're rare, right?

3. Wonder if the bride, etc. are also exposed?
This story is just getting more bizarre by the moment.

Nobody is allowed into CDC labs but the actual workers
IE he may have been able to have lunch with his FIL in a cafeteria but he could not enter any "hot" lab that actually worked with the bacteria. There is strict controls on that sort of thing. Contolled agents etc...

7. Why is his law firm's website shut down?
Because the pieces of this story DON'T fit together.
1. WHERE and HOW did he contract this drug-resistant strain of TB? FROM WHOM?
2. Why has no one in his office "caught" it?
3. Why didn't his "fiance" catch it?
4. What about his parents? And people he ATE with?
People he works with and ate lunch with .... how come THEY didn't catch it?

If his so-called "fiance" (who he presumably had sex with) didn't catch it, then why must 500 people on an airplane who had no direct contact with him be terrified?
What's wrong with this picture?
Is this just another New World Order scheme? ... contaminated petfood, tainted toothpaste, Bird-flu, missing honey-bees; and now a mysterious strain of TB ... and the girl's father is a TB researcher at the CDC?

I'll ask again .... what's wrong with this picture?
Hello?

9. He has been to Vietnam and thinks he got it there.
His wife did not get it because right now he is not highly contagious.
The people on the planes are terrified because his TB does not respond to any antibiotics so it's really deadly.
The girl's father works as a TB researcher but he does not have TB, so he says he did not infect his son in law.

11. Is wife didn't catch it because what?
Edited on Sat Jun-02-07 07:49 PM by janetblond
Right NOW he's not highly contagious?
Was he not sleeping with his "wife" when he returned from Viet Nam?? .. Exchanging bodily fluids like SPIT?
If he's not highly contagious then, why look for all the people who were on those planes?
WHO attended the wedding?
HOW MANY people flew WITH him to attend the wedding?
Wouldn't their health be in jeopardy too?
Or did NO ONE attend the wedding?
Again, how about people he ATE with months ago, like co-workers, and parents?
This whole story adds up to a crock of shit!

15. You seem to have no comprehension of how TB works.
Edited on Sun Jun-03-07 11:51 AM by lizzy
Read something about it first.
It is not highly infectious and he won't infect everyone he comes in contact with. And of those exposed, most won't develop an actual TB, even if they will have a positive TB test.

Even in close contact with a person that has active TB, infection rate is only 22 %. It also depends on how much bacterium he was excreting.

13. HI NY99 and EVERYONE! Here is what I heard on another thread!
that a lot of people have TB and the issue is whether it is infectious or not.

Sorry Now I really don't get what exactly I heard, but it had to do with this being made into a big deal over something that is fundamentally misunderstood about the disease, and that centered around the distinction of infectious TB or not.

Can someone articulate that accurately?

14. A lot of people have been exposed to TB.
It does not mean they have it. This guy had actual TB. It was diagnosed by an X-ray.
