Poll question: Corporate Sales Strategy
(reposted from the lounge upon the suggestion that people would be more interested here.)

It seems to me that AT&T is absolutely using breasts as a strategy to try to get more corporate business.

I just met with our Corporate Sales Rep. We do a few million $ per year in business with them so they're in here periodically trolling for more. This rep is a very attractive, young, well proportioned and was wearing a thin clingy top with a low neck-line.

The prior sales rep is also young, beautiful, well proportioned, and tended to wear clothing that highlighted her breasts. Before her we would sometimes see teams of women sent to cold-call us looking to get our business. I've never seen a sales team that didn't include at least one gorgeous women in revealing clothes.

This current sales rep is very intelligent. The prior one had as mercenary an attitude as any male sales rep I've ever met. Neither one of them needs to use her appearance to sell. So, what do you think AT&T is thinking?

2. Disgraceful
Truly disgraceful to exploit women in this manner.

3. Does AT&T dress them? Or do they dress themselves?
And realize that using their sexuality works?

I'm just curious.

Obviously it's a bit questionable either way, but in the first case it's AT&T's fault for objectifying woman, and in the later case it's all of our fault for being comfortable objectifying women.

5. Big PhRMA uses the same tactics when selling drugs to physicians.
Commercials on TV are only one avenue they use.

7. That's a huge face-to-face market.
And most doctors are still male in this country. I'd be very surprised if Big PhRMA wasn't exploiting that.

6. AT&T proably hires successful sales people
Edited on Thu May-31-07 03:13 PM by murloc
And some of the more successful sails people know ALL that sex sells.

Ever heard of a "closing skirt"?

First time I heard the term was when I was an engineer assisting a young women sales rep (at a telco no less).

I cannot imagine that AT&T is instructing women to wear revealing clothes to get sales. They would be sued into oblivion. However I'm quite sure that aggressive, successful sales people do know all the tricks.

9. copying post from lounge...
I picked "OTHER" because I think it is more than one of the above. I think it's flagrant sexism and they think men are all pigs and ergo it will be the better way to sell to them. This in turn requires using women as walking sex toys to sell stuff and that's misogynistic.

I don't know if they really think women are too stupid to sell stuff without using their bodies. I think they just don't care because they know the sex sells. They are counting on all male customers being so stupid and vacuous this is what they will respond to. ...and they don't care if they misuse and abuse their female employees...for the mighty buck.

It's bad from every perspective.

...and I will k&r this.
