Scalia Daughter Pleads to DUI Charge
WHEATON, Ill. — The daughter of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia was sentenced to 18 months of court supervision after pleading guilty to drunken driving.

Ann S. Banaszewski, 45, of Wheaton, on Wednesday accepted a plea agreement under which prosecutors dropped four other charges including endangering the life of a child and failure to secure a child younger than eight in a child-restraint system.

She was arrested Feb. 12 while driving away from a fast-food restaurant in Wheaton, 20 miles west of Chicago. Three of her children were inside her 1996 Ford van when someone called police to report a suspected intoxicated driver, authorities have said.

Banaszewski didn't contest the automatic six-month suspension of her driver's license for refusing to take a breath test.

A DuPage County judge also sentenced her to 140 hours of public service and to attend counseling sessions, according to Paul Darrah, a spokesman for the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

Banaszewski's attorney, Donald Ramsell, said the plea agreement was fair to both sides.

Scalia, who began serving on the Supreme Court in 1986, has nine children.

3. I'm rather surprised that Child Protective Services wasn't involved ..
of course, that would be a separate civil case in Dependency Court.

But, of course, she is Scalia's kid ...

4. I hope she stays the f* away from her 'dear father' and gets the help she needs.
Imagine how aweful it would be to be the child of a prick like that!

6. Nine? Holy cow, he's raising his own Supreme Court!
Nine isn't fatherhood, its a litter. He's going to pack the court with his own drunken spawn.

7. 45 seems a bit old to be doing the DUI thing
I mean, most people get their first DUI out of their system in their teens or early 20s. But 45? With at least three kids? Yikes.

8. You have to understand one thing: Wheaton is in DuPage County,
Illinois. Republican Central in Northern Illinois. The States Attorney for DuPage County is Joe Birkett. He was Judy Baar Topinka's choice for Lt. Gov. when she ran last November against Blago.

She got a "relative" slap on the wrist for this DUI...

12. Henry Hyde's old district.
I used to live in Lombard before I migrated west. Wheaton College is a conservative Christian college, if I remember correctly. The whole area is very conservative. It's amazing that Tammy Duckworth did as well as she did there.

I suspect if it had been anyone else that DUI would have resulted in a whole lot more than what she got.

9. Plus: Scalia himself used to be a nasty landlord in Chicago
The son of a friend of mine rented from Scalia, and he tried to
avoid returning the kid's security deposit by putting it off without
justification.

I'm sure Scalia still has some pull with a few judges in Illinois.
