According to CBS News, we are at war |
|
I caught a few minutes of the news this evening where they announced that this month has been the third bloodiest when it comes to the loss of United States troops in the War.
What war ?
Our troops have not been engaged in war since May of 2003. When the enemy army collapses, the war is ended. Our troops defeated the Iraq forces in April of 2003. Since then they have been forced to pull occupation duty. That is not what courageous young warriors are trained for. However, our less than courageous leader demands they stay in a foreign land and die to protect -- not their country -- but the political agenda of George W Bush.
It's understandable when people argue that we should not "pull out" of a war in progress. But there is no justification for forcing American soldiers to die in order to maintain an occupation force. The only people who profit from occupation are conquerors, Emperors and the powers that control the empires.
I wonder why the new Democratic Congress can't understand that ?

It's not a question of the new Democratic Congress understanding; they do. It's a mater of having to work within a marginal and limited majority.
Granted, I would have preferred if they just sat on their hands and refused to fund the war, but that would have been the brave thing to do.

2. The reason 80% of the Dems in the Senate voted to give bush a blank check |
|
is because they wanted to.
I knew the bill was going to pass;
I was surprised at how many Dems voted to put their names on it. It's bought and paid for now. Those who voted for it, own it.

Nobody doubts they did what they wanted to do.
The question is: Why did they want to do this?
I'm sure they didn't just wake up from a drunken stupor and said: Today, I'm feeling lucky, I guess I'll just vote to support the war.
Maybe I'm wrong, but my guess is they looked at the poll numbers, looked at when their next reelection race was going to be, and voted, in a way calculated to maximize their reelection chances.
That's why I believe they did not do what was brave; they did what was smart from their own selfish point of view.
Our job is to make them pay the highest possible cost for this decision.
