Off-duty officer shoots daughter mistaken for intruder
This is going to make that Father/Daughter dance on her wedding day a little awkward.

http://www.courant.com/news/local/statewire/hc-30062318.apds.m0911.bc-ct--daugmay30,0,4079154.story?coll=hc-headlines-local-wire"Mr. Scott was under the impression his daughter had gone to bed for the night," town police Capt. Thomas Rodia said in a statement. "He did not expect his daughter to be outside or down in the basement."

Stratford police said Tasha Scott left her home some time late Monday to meet a boyfriend. She activated a backyard motion sensor light as she tried to enter through a basement door.

Awakened by the light, Eric Scott took his department-issued pistol, found a rear door open that he had locked earlier, then spotted someone a person moving in the basement bathroom, police said. He fired once, shooting the teen in the knee. The bullet traveled up her leg and lodged in her thigh area, police said.

Her father called 911 when he realized who he had shot, police said.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't get the last line. If he had shot anyone else, he would've skipped the 911 call and given the intruder to his Gimp?

3. One rule I've always been taught about shooting a gun...
Know what the hell you're aiming at. I'm sure the father feels guilty as hell....he should, but as a cop he should have known better than this. Since I was a kid I was taught to know your target. In the Army our drill sargeant lectured us more than once about knowing what we're shooting at.

7. Exactly. The cop should have known better.
I would think he would have shouted out to the person before firing.

8. On the street it would've been 'Freeze! Police!'...
before they shot. In a less dramatic fashion, the cop could have said 'I've got a gun'. Would have saved the girl from getting shot.

Makes me wonder if he ever had fired his weapon before or if he should even be a cop.

9. Always answer that fucking question before you ease the trigger.
And when you're in the fucking military, or a cop, you better fucking be quick about it.

It doesn't seem wise to shoot someone within your home without identifying a target.

11. "He did not expect his daughter to be outside or down in the basement."
The father of a teenager actually said that? And a cop no less? He should be fired for being a moron.
