What will we do?

There are so many atrocities.

So many that it is overwhelming.

I watched the movie "The Last King of Scotland" last night about Idi Amin who butchered so many and his own wife in a way that kept me up all night.

It made me think about Rwanda, Sudan, and other nations overwraught by genocide. What do we do about it, and I mean really do about it, not just write angry letters?

The UN is the body that is responsible for action here, and they are doing/have done fucking nothing...so where is our protest energy there? Do we have it in us to protest the very source of inactivity? If the UN wasn't created for just such a thing, what the hell are they there for?

1. I know when I get to the point that I stay up

all night over this stuff, that its time for me to back away from my computer and/or any electronic device that is feeding me information. I go for a walk, talk to my dog, read a book that will take my mind somewhere else for at least an hour or two, etc.

In answer to your question, we individuals can't do anything about it directly. We as a group can write letters, make phone calls, even call the UN if that works for you but without a sane govt representing us, we can't do it on our own.

To get a sane govt, we need to win in 2008. Find a candidate to support and do what you can locally to get that person elected.

I know that there are horrible things going on in Sudan and will continue on through this night and into the foreseeable future. My concern was about you. If you take ill over worry, you still can't help them.

If you do come up with a way that we individually can make it change for them, I will be right by your side. Practically, I stand by my first plan to do what you can locally so we can make a difference when our govt is returned to us in 2008.

without having a solution of your own, and she was just trying to ease your mind. Your idea about putting pressure on the U.N. would be great except that the U.S. owes the U.N. nearly 3 billion dollars in dues. If your electricity goes out can you put pressure on the power company to turn it back on if you haven't paid your bill in 4 years?
