U.S. warns travel to Venezuela could be risky
Fri Jun 1, 2007 1:23AM EDT

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The United States is urging its
citizens to think twice about traveling to Venezuela, citing
protests and political tensions over the closure of an
opposition broadcaster in Caracas.

Nationwide demonstrations sparked by President Hugo
Chavez's decision not to renew Radio Caracas Television's
(RCTV) broadcast license continue and now students are
calling for university strikes, the State Department said
in an alert issued on Thursday.

Riot police were out in force near groups of demonstrators
and near government buildings in Caracas and other major
Venezuelan cities, the notice said, warning that "even
demonstrations intended to be peaceful may turn violent."

"In light of the current circumstances, U.S. citizens are
advised to consider the risks before traveling to Venezuela
at this time," the State Department said.

1. I hope Venezuelans are very vigilent and disciplined right now in opposing coups.
You never know, some right-wing fascist officers could try another coup. The state department is certainly signalling something with its lingo here. It would be wise of Venezuelans to counter-mobilize in a peaceful and massive fashion to oppose those fomenting violence and protect the constitutional order. A repeat of 2002 would not be so relatively bloodless.

2. Well, Chavez has been holding America up as the big bad evil...
it's no surprise an American might not be safe.

3. American dittoheads excepted, most people around the world
understand the difference between the ruling class and the commoners, and are not likely to confuse the two. You may not, but most do.

4. If you want to expound on your admiration and love for Chavez...
don't let me stop you. Go for it. Hell, break into song if you must. I'm sure you'll find a chorus to join you in your adulation of the man.

5. Tell that to the Miss USA who just got booed a day or so ago.

Poor dear falls on her bony ass then she gets booed at. That couldn't have been fun at all, just imagine if you had gone through that. I know I tried, and I don't care how much money she has or not, she still feels like any other human being and that must have really sucked.
