Secret Service routinely destroyed Cheney's visitor logs
Edited on Fri Jun-01-07 02:58 AM by cynatnite
snip:
The Justice Department filed the Cheney letter last Friday in one of the lawsuits brought by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, which is invoking the FOIA law in seeking the identities of conservative religious leaders who visited the White House complex and the vice president's residence. The group, which represents Valerie Plame and her husband in their lawsuit against Cheney and other key administration figures in the leak of Plame's CIA identity, also is seeking White House visitor logs in the Abramoff scandal.

According to government documents, the Secret Service routinely destroyed five of eight categories of information relating to visitors to Cheney's residence. Of the records it retained, the Secret Service regularly turned over handwritten visitor logs to Cheney's office.

The Secret Service stopped the destruction in June 2006 because of lawsuits by various groups, according to the court papers. The law enforcement agency also is retaining copies of the material, contrary to the directive in the September 2006 letter from Cheney's counsel.

1. In other words:
"You can't convict us unless you have the evidence, and we won't let you have
the evidence, go get lost!"

The double standard they go by is getting more and more flagrant, considering
what a stink they put up in obtaining this very kind of record in order to try
to paralyze the Clinton administration. The only thing that amazes me is how
the manage to keep up this crap with a straight face.

3. Look, you libruls can't get out of your pre 9/11 mindset can ya?
The SS was just doing what it had to do to protect the VP. There is not telling what might happen if those records got in the hands of terrorists...or Democrats.

6. Isn't it!
:grr:

Makes one think the SS has an agenda!:eyes: I've had my ass chewed out by a DUER who thought my questioning the SS's 'devotion' to the prez they protect was somewhat dependent on their 'politics.' Looks like I was right. No one will EVER convince me that they set aside their politics when they take that job. NO WAY....not after this. They knew they were breaking the law!

7. Why can't those agents be held accountable for what they did?

8. Isn't Tricky Dick Jr. covered by the federal records act or even the Presidential records act?
Shouldn't these dorks be keeping those logs?

I tell you, this looks like a continuous pattern of destroying records in order to prevent Dick's contacts from leaking out. I could understand not wanting private friends not being released, but we all want to know if Jack (Abram)Off or any of his corrupt friends visited old Dick.

10. Yes, it is, in fact it is a corrupt act in and of itself.
Like I posted right about, I wonder if this will be a violation of any records retention acts.
