BRAVE MOM-Who Lost Son-Gets In Bush's Face: "Yes I am Hostile, Because -YOU-Sent My Son Over There"
Edited on Fri Jun-01-07 09:54 AM by kpete
"President Bush, ..... told me I was kind of, seemed like I was kind of hostile. I said, ‘yes I am hostile, because you sent my son over there.’ So my thing is -- all the questions that I asked him, he didn’t know nothing then, and he definitely don’t know nothing now, because the United States is in worser shape now that it was in 2003 that my son died.''

Martin asked: "So when you left that meeting did you leave with determination to do something or did that happen over time?''

Johnson said: "When he told me -- I said what’s, what’s the mission? He couldn’t give me an answer. I says, well I’m going to tell you what: I’m on my mission now. My mission had just begun. And my mission is to fight to bring these troops home, to take care of these troops when they get home.

"Then he gave us a presidential coin,'' she said. "Now you check this out: He gave six of us a presidential coin, tell us not to tell the rest of the people that was there, and then after that he told us don’t go sell it on eBay. Now you tell me how insensitive that can be? What kind of caring person is that?''

90. I still have my box of Presidential M&M's from the first Clinton inauguration.
Edited on Fri Jun-01-07 10:49 PM by Divernan
What a swell party that was!

Off topic, but mention of presidential M&M's made me free-associate to a much kinder, gentler time in our history.

Bush's insensitivity to parents whose children he has used as cannon fodder goes beyond my descriptive powers as to negative adjectives. But it is what we could expect from a man who as governor mocked and mimicked people begging for their lives in the form of a stay-of-execution.
For those few who don't know the story, Bush, using a falsetto voice, entertained a guest in the governor's office with a snickering imitation of aa about to be executed woman: "Oh please, Mr. Governor, don't kill me!"

67. Presidential coin? What a degenerate bastard.
I cannot even imagine what I'd do if I'd been there when he said that. What a prick. One of these days, somebody's mom is going to decide that doing time in the federal pen or Guantanemo is a fair deal for the simple pleasure of slapping that smug smirk off his face.

I have decided to buy the W quarters by the roll when they finally come out and deface every single one of them with a ball peen hammer. Just one good swat each. Maybe, if I'm creative, I'll stamp a nice "T" for traitor on each forehead instead. Sure, defacing currency is a crime, but man, will it feel good.

a la Julius Caesar.

Seriously, what can you expect of a man raised by the mother he had? Is anyone delusional enough to think this woman was capable of teaching him manners, empathy, social decorum, courtesy, or any of the arts of civility? Or of even giving him any warmth, love, confidence and support as a child? Not to overlook his highly deficient father, but I lay a huge portion of this man's gigantic set of problems squarely in her uncaring, unloving, wrinkled lap.

I guess it's hard to decide who was at fault - educator or student?
Also, that brings to mind that 9.11 story they thought was so great - it made it into their Showtime propaganda movie: a little girl showed him the photo of her father that she was about to post on a board for finding the disappeared. W AUTOGRAPHED the photos and told the kid: "I'm sure you'll find him and when you do, tell him you met ME

An overbearing man, often a bully, he once surprised the Pope during a ceremonial gift-giving in Rome. The Pontiff handed the President a 14th-century painting; Johnson gave the Pope a bust of himself.

50. Its a military thing - I'll explain
most military commands have a special coin made, that the commander gives as rewards to people who have done something great or important for the unit. I got a couple dozen during my time in the Army, from battalion to brigade to some division (2 star general) coins. The usually have the rank and name of the commander giving it engraved on it, and better ones have dates and the name of the receiver too.

The higher the rank of the coin, the more 'important' it is. A common bar bet among soldiers is called "coining". If you're in a bar with fellow soldiers, you pull out your highest ranking coin and challenge someone to outrank it. If they do, you have to buy them a drink. If not, they buy you one. Thats why the coins are sometimes called "challenge coins".

68. There's another way to do a coin check
The coins aren't just rewards from the commander. They sell them, and all NCOs and officers are expected to buy one.

In the really old days, we used to hold NCO Calls in the NCO Open Mess. An NCO Call is a training session. They were always held on Friday at 1600--you'd train until Retreat sounded, at which time you'd go outside, salute the flag as it was lowered, and then go back inside where the bar would open. All you guys who were in units that did things you could discuss in a bar would drink and talk shop; all of us who did secret work would drink and drink some more. Anyway, about an hour into this someone would get really fucking stupid and call for a coin check. The way we always worked it in my units was to take the guys who forgot their coins, extract four or five dollars from each and buy one round for the whole unit. The tradition, of course, is to have each person buy a round--but you'd normally have thirty to forty people who didn't bring their coins. No one can drink two cases of beer at one sitting.

The tradition also says that, in the very rare event that everyone remembered their coins, the person who calls the coin check has to buy a round for the house. That never happens.

I've talked to any number of people about their reactions on the day of the attacks -- and not one of them has reported having that as their first thought. I don't know what is more disturbing, Bush having such a flippant impression (especially after having been warned about the possibility of this, well in advance) -- or his thinking that people would be amused by such a comment.

104. Meet my Senator, the Hon. James Webb, (D-VA) Welcome to DU!!!
http://tinyurl.com/335fpf 20 Nov 2006

At a private reception held at the White House with newly elected lawmakers shortly after the election, Bush asked Webb how his son, a Marine lance corporal serving in Iraq, was doing.

Webb responded that he really wanted to see his son brought back home, said a person who heard about the exchange from Webb.

“I didn’t ask you that, I asked how he’s doing,” Bush retorted, according to the source.

Webb confessed that he was so angered by this that he was tempted to slug the commander-in-chief, reported the source, but of course didn’t. It’s safe to say, however, that Bush and Webb won’t be taking any overseas trips together anytime soon.

“Jim did have a conversation with Bush at that dinner,” said Webb’s spokeswoman Kristian Denny Todd. “Basically, he asked about Jim’s son, Jim expressed the fact that he wanted to have him home.” Todd did not want to escalate matters by commenting on Bush’s response, saying, “It was a private conversation.”

91. Reminds me of him mocking a Texas women on death row during th '00 campaign...
Some newspaper journalist got to ride with him in his governor's limo and had asked Bush about Karla Faye Tucker who had become repentant and had found Jesus or whatever (sorry, but I personally think that suddenly finding religion while on death row rings a tad hollow as far as penance, though I'm still anti-DP). Bush mocked her by say "Please don't kill me." in a whiny voice. The journalist was stunned and horrified by the statement. This cruelty and uncaring is nothing new for Bush, not by a long shot.

106. I feel for ALL the moms - Mrs. Bixby too - Nothing much changes really?
Letter to Mrs. Bixby
In the fall of 1864, Massachusetts Governor John A. Andrew wrote to President Lincoln asking him to express condolences to Mrs. Lydia Bixby, a widow who was believed to have lost five sons during the Civil War. Lincoln's letter to her was printed by the Boston Evening Transcript. Later it was revealed that only two of Mrs. Bixby's five sons died in battle (Charles and Oliver). One deserted the army, one was honorably discharged, and another deserted or died a prisoner of war.
The authorship of the letter has been debated by scholars, some of whom now believe it was written instead by John Hay, one of Lincoln's White House secretaries. The original letter was destroyed by Mrs. Bixby, who was a Confederate sympathizer and disliked President Lincoln. Copies of an early forgery have been circulating for many years, causing many people to believe they have the original letter.

Executive Mansion,
Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.

Dear Madam,--

I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle.

I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save.

I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,

A. Lincoln
