Gore Calls Coal-to-Liquid Push in Congress a `Serious Mistake'
June 1 (Bloomberg) -- Former Vice President Al Gore said he opposes a push by some lawmakers in Congress to subsidize coal as an alternative fuel because it would boost global warming pollution and further harm the environment.

``That's a mistake, a serious mistake,'' Gore, 59, said in an interview on ``Conversations with Judy Woodruff'' airing this weekend on Bloomberg Television.

As Democratic leaders attempt to craft energy independence and climate change legislation this year, lawmakers from coal- producing states are proposing incentives to spur construction of coal-to-liquid production plants.

1. It is a deadly mistake.
Fish in streams and lakes are already inedible, and the damage done to places where mountaintop removal proceeds are completely and utterly ravaged.

This is short sighted at best and utterly incomprehensible and flatly unsustainable as a long-term strategy.

2. people will burn everything they can, no matter how vile...
...before this is over. While they gag on the fumes and poison the planet for thousands of years, they will rationalize and obfuscate the truth until the last scrap of resource is used.
