Did Schwarzenegger Stogie Break the Law?
Did Schwarzenegger Stogie Break the Law?
Written by Jason Kobely, Internet News Producer

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Governor Schwarzenegger fired up a stogie during his trip to Canada this week, but did he break U.S. law to do it?

The celebrity governor known for his love of premium cigars was in Ottawa Wednesday on his way to the airport when his motorcade made a detour to a hotel. A report in the Ottawa Citizen newspaper said Schwarzenegger picked up a Cuban Partagas cigar in a hotel shop, with the $15.99 bill paid by an aide traveling with him.

Under a trade restrictions, U.S. citizens are prohibited from buying Cuban cigars anywhere in the world.

7. Apparently Arnold was flanked by 10 security/police members...
while he made his little pit stop for the stogie.
I wonder if there was a Black Hawk on standby too.
My God, Arnold, you're just buying a cigar in Canada. It's not Somalia. Noone's going to jump you.

2. Yea it probably did, but I bet there are LOTS of wealthy cigar smokers breaking that same
law every day of the week! The restrictions on buying stuff from Cuba are outdated and should be repealed!

How the fuck can they do that? That can't be for real.

If I fly to fucking australia and light up a cuban cigar, how the fuck does american law apply? That's got to be one of the most stupid things I've ever fucking heard. God these restrictions are dumb.

5. Under those circumstances, you get away with it. But if you bring it back into the country....
You have to declare at the customs check point whether you're an American or a Republican. Americans can't bring in Cuban trade goods.

6. You are correct, anywhere in the world

Also you can not set up a subsidiary foreignly to conduct business with Cuban companies or interests.

Of course, someone buying and smoking cigars while they are on vacation isn't really at the top of enforcement concerns.
