An unexpected surprise -- Nascar Angels
This morning started out ominously -- I noticed my read tire was low and knew that I had to get it checked out before it got worse. I went to a Goodyear Tire Center near my house (Discount was backed up big time). I settled in for my wait and soon one of the guys came in and changed the channel. "You're in for a treat, he said." I'm wondering what was going on...

It turns out that they helped repair a car for the Nascar Angels program. A 15 year old boy with a brain tumor bought a '73 Camaro for $2700. It was undriveavle, covered with rust, and was basically disgusting. The program told the story of the car's transformaiton and most of the show was of the guys lined up behind me repairing this car. It was pretty damn amazing. They were cheering each other and telling us about the kid and the whole deal.

I've never paid much attention to Nascar, ranking it was up there with golf as the most boring things to watch. This opened my eyes a little, although I still think it's boring.

Here's more on the Nascar Angels:

"Nothing unites America like the automobile. Across the country every day, millions of people turn the ignition and depend on their vehicles to get them where they need to go.

That's where the NASCAR Angels come in... The NASCAR Angels hit the road with a simple mission: to help people and to fix broken cars. It's Extreme Home Makeover meets Pimp My Ride, NASCAR-style. The twist? The Angels dream team has only three days to complete the entire project.

With the help of NASCAR partners, the NASCAR Angels fix rides and give people a NASCAR experience they'll never forget. Everyone needs a helping hand once in a while. That's NASCAR Angels...transforming cars, enhancing lives."

1. GREAT for them! I happen to like NASCAR, although I'm a
much bigger fan of Pro Football. NASCAR has gotten a bad rap with a lot of Dems. They really ARE a lot of GREAT PEOPLE, and believe me, they're NOT sall Pubs!!!!

2. NASCAR, like hockey, is very fan friendly. They know what side their bread is buttered on.
Fans get to meet their favorite drivers, etc.

They're not the kind of spoiled brats other athletes are. Spoiled, but in a different way. They say Jeff Gordon is the nicest guy on the planet. "King" Richard Petty was always wonderful to a friend of mine's mother.
