Fascinating video of Orcas using waves to get at a seal on an ice floe -not graphic or bloody.
For those of you on dial-up, this video is shot from a cruise ship apparently and shows a pod of 5 or 6 Orcas using a method i had never seen before and found fascinating. A single seal on a flat piece of ice maybe 15 yards square has chunks of his ice knocked away methodically by the Orcas and then several attempts by the whales are made to literally wash the seal off the ice by creating waves that flush over the top of the ice.

Absolutely amazing, creative, intelligent, organized hunters.

2. Pretty cool, huh?
I thought it was interesting how they made the waves, swam under the ice and then immediately popped up to look as if to say "did we get 'em?"

6. I'm impressed when I can open the fridge door without hitting my foot.
These guys are able to team up and flush the guy off the ice.

There's a reason the shark has lasted as long as it has. Until we came along, they had no real threat to their existence. The other fish just knew it was best to taste like shit or to not be where the sharks are.

3. That was something. Very interesting.
My only complaint is the dialog. Why do people have to predict? Guess it is our monkey minds.

4. That's nothing, I saw a show on a pod of dolphins that help human fisherman fish...
These fisherman stand about knee high in the water, off the coast, with casting nets ready. They then wait for the dolphins to come in with schools of fish that are driven towards the fisherman. The dolphins then leap, twisting, into the air, its the signal used to tell the fisherman to cast their nets. They cast the nets, catching most of the fish, and the dolphins are able to pick up the stragglers. The most impressive thing about this is that it has been practiced in South America for centuries, and the bottlenose dolphins in question are free, not domesticated.

9. Animal foraging is way cool to watch.

Its too bad for the seal, but he ended the lives of many fish and squid himself. It is the way of the world.
