75. Hey Patsy, about that champagne
In November 2000, I had some friends at my house watching the election returns and when Florida was "initially" called for Gore one of them ran out to a liquor store and got some champagne. By the time they got, the networks had reversed field and you know the rest of the story. Anyway, that bottle was never opened...maybe another one will be this time?

40. The country owes it to itself
to finally have the president it voted for before the country was hijacked by this madman and his evil friends. It's a great start to making us whole again and repairing the damage.

Oh, my word. CNN has Rick Sanchez on; they're letting him interact with actual human beings. This is going to be high comedy.

It made the whole thing much more interesting just to think how different the debate would have been had he been a part of it.
One thing's for damn sure, it will be a whole different ballgame when he enters the race.

55. Don't you mean IF he enters the race?
If he doesn't get in fairly soon, he won't have proven his viability as a candidate. You only do that when you compete in primaries. So far, there's lots of nostaglia for Gore, but I've yet to see him win over masses of voters. He will only do that in a few primary runs.

Notice I did not say President because she can't win the General election.

If you don't back Edwards or Obama now, then Hillary will win while you are waiting for Al.

You can always change your mind if Sherif Al finally shows up at the OK Corral.

54. I think the main reason the campaign was started so early
is because America can't wait to get rid of Bush! Even the Repukes are fed up with him. Since Congress doesn't seem able or willing to end the nightmare by impeaching him, we're all looking forward impatiently to the next administration.

And yeah, Gore is my first choice also.

So what was the purpose of this? You mean you are giving him a deadline? How nice. And if he doesn't meet YOUR deadline is he then unworthy of support on any level? Amazing how so many here cry for him to save them now, but not one comment has anything to do with supporting fighting the climate crisis or taking anything on to save this Democracy short of giving HIM deadlines.

Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 10:09 AM by flyarm
please don't put words in my mouth..you have a healthy habit of that it seems..

if he doesn't run i will feel the need to choose another candidate...but i am willing to wait..that is "MY CHOICE"

do not change my words..it is not nessesary..and it seems you have a distaste for Gore..since you are
"always" criticizing anyone who wants or say they want Gore to run...that is "your" problem , not mine!

move along...if you are so disturbed by these types of threads..why do you read them?? again i will say..move along...and please stop your habit of reading my posts and changing what i have posted to fit what "YOU THINK" i have posted ..and how you feel..

i do not tell you what your posts say or mean...

this thread could not be more simple..or succinct.

and i do believe there is a time that he will either have to get into the race , or he will simply not be running..you have a problem with that?? its your problem..not mine..

i will be waiting until i believe there is no chance for President Gore to put his name in the running.

I can only do what i can do to encourage Pres Gore to run..and i am doing all i can to those ends...

as an Elected delegate in my state i think i have a good idea when he would have to decide to run..i am willing to wait.

again ..if you have a problem with that..that is your problem, not mine!!

i can not ask that you respect my choice ,it is my choice to make ..and i am sticking to it..

but i do respect your choice... to do as you wish..it is that simple to me.

I am waiting for President Gore to run..

fly

pssssss....seems i have alot of company here at DU that feel the same way...i wrote this simple little thread after watching the debate..as i felt there was something sorely missing..

that was just my feeling..and i saw all the other threads saying this one won and that one won..well i...me...just simple me...didn't feel there was a winner..first of all, i still say it is way too early...and my gut was screaming..we need Gore..we really need Gore..I REALLY NEED GORE TO RUN...

and for a simple thread, i thought i was just putting my 2 cents in..and it seems my two cents were what alot of other people felt as well...and lots and lots of 2 cents were added by many who feel the same way!!

85. Run in what? The toxic system no one is going to change first?
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 10:53 AM by RestoreGore
If you really are reading his book or read his interview in Tennessee from last Saturday, you would know how he feels about that. Or are you like so many others in this country willfully oblivious to that on purpose because it ruins your illusions? And please, cut the rhetoric about my feelings for Mr. Gore. It is because I care for him so much that I have a distaste for people who continue to beg and PUSH him without substance or regard for him as if nothing the man himself says means anything. I only see this as people wanting Mr. Gore to jump into this muck because they just don't like what they have... and that is not really a reasoned summation of why anyone would want the man to give up all he has now and all he could do unfettered by that crap just to clean the mess made in this country due to our inability to take action to restore a constitution and Democracy that we let be put on life support these last seven years. So excuse me if all this begging after the fact is somewhat anti-climactic and hollow to me under the circumstances. The only way he would ever seriously consider it in my view is if people make an effort to change it. Begging him 24/7 is not exactly the way that will be done now.

Interview with Al Gore

How do you resist running? Everybody from CEOs down are asking you to run. Do you just not have it in you to go through another campaign?

No, that's not it at all. That is not it at all. (laughs) A couple of my friends have said over the last year, 'Al, why don't you take a break and run for president?' "

It's not the hard work or the controversies or the constant battles. I'm going through that right now. If you look at the analysis of what's wrong in the political system that is contained in this book, that's really the most important reason why I feel it may be better for me to focus whatever talents and experiences I have on trying to fix that system and to mobilize a majority in favor of solving the climate crisis, rather than throwing myself once again into that system before it is fixed and getting into the same set of incentives that create the kind of political dialogue we have today. It may be easier to fix it from the outside.

Again, I haven't ruled out for all time thinking about politics again. It's just that the way it works now, I don't think that the skills I have are the ones that are most likely to be rewarded within this system. It's like a washing machine that is permanently set on the spin cycle. It doesn't stop spinning. That creates real problems for a politics based on reason
~~~
But hey, don't pay attention to his words, just bash those who do.
From my last response to you that you obvously didn't read either. And great work using that one minor thing to deflect from answering my posts, especially my asking you how you liked the book... but I don't expect any specifics about that either. you have an incredible way of always twisting others words ...you have no right to my words..
i am also a realist , If Pres Gore does not get into this race at a certain point ...it will be inevitable he is not running...i said i will be patient and wait for him..and i will...i was not answering you when i posted i have a specific cut off timeline i am looking at ..you rudely interupted my conversation with someone else!!...but as an elected delegate for my state.. i do know when the realistic clock will have run out..
do not under any circumstances put words in my mouth..i have my own words ..and you are not entitled to them!!
..seems you want anything but Gore retored!!
you seem to pop up on all the Gore posts and do everything you can to deminish anyone who supports and wants Gore to run!!
and if you read my post you would know, i am in the process of reading his book..and i bought 10 others to give out for fathers day ..to all my friends husbands to read on the beach this summer!!
I have not finished the book, as i have had an absessed tooth ..and had a root canal friday and have pain in my eyes..from the infection and drugs i am taking..is that enough info for you????????????? now my blood pressure is also up..so i will go rest and let the meds i am taking work!!
now go play with someone else..i will no longer answer any of your posts.
I'm assuming that your reference to the "serious ones in this world" includes yourself? Arrogant and high horse, eh? Look in the mirror.
Some of us here at DU actually believe that Al Gore can chew gum AND walk at the same time. He seems to believe that, as well. Like he says, it's all about a "well-informed citizenry"!
Until he has his "Shermanesque" moment...you don't know any more than the rest of us. He'll either RUN or he won't. It's as simple as that. If he runs, we are with him. ALL OF THE WAY! Why is that so difficult for you to accept? It's your constant lecturing and YOUR tone that is offensive. Just let it be.
All of these folks decided they wanted to start the race much earlier. He'll get in at the usual time - about the one year mark. That alone makes him the smartest candidate out there, hands down.
Too many people won't vote for Hillary under any circumstances.
Ditto Obama, unfortunately for his ethnic background.
Compared to Al Gore, John Edwards is a political lightweight on the national scene.
69. Gore is the best person for the job -- period.
l Gore is the best person for the job, in terms of his experience, knowledge, intelligence and judgement.
I am dreaming of a Gore-Obama ticket in 2008. But there is no hurry for Gore to enter the race.
I think Al Gore is keeping his options open right now, watching how the "pre-season" goes. I don't think he yet knows what he will do. My guess is that the chance of him entering the race is somewhere between 20% and 35%.
Gore's current line - "I have no plans to be a candidate" - tells us that right now (today) he has no plans to run. But it doesn't prevent him from changing his plans and making new plans during the coming months.
Depending on how things pan out, and the reaction to his book, Gore can consider his situation over the summer and announce his decision (or if you prefer - "change his mind") sometime in the fall.
It all depends on the circumstances. In September, if the race for the Dem nomination is still wide open and Hillary's campaign is in trouble, it might create the conditions for Gore to enter the race.
Don't forget that Bill Clinton did not kick-off his campaign until October 1991. But Al Gore already has nationwide respect and name recognition that other wannabees can only wish for!
Unless and until Gore endorses another candidate, we have to assume that he is keeping his options open. So it is too soon for those of us who prefer Gore to switch our allegiance.
"If (Al) was going to run in the future, of course I would support him. I think he'd be a fantastic president. He already got a majority of votes of people in this country once, and so that says something."
-- Tipper Gore on Good Morning America, June 13, 2006
THE LAST TEMPTATION OF AL GORE
By Eric Pooley
TIME Magazine -- May 17, 2007
Let's say you were dreaming up the perfect stealth candidate for 2008, a Democrat who could step into the presidential race when the party confronts its inevitable doubts about the front runners. You would want a candidate with the grass-roots appeal of Barack Obama -- someone with a message that transcends politics, someone who spoke out loud and clear and early against the war in Iraq. But you would also want a candidate with the operational toughness of Hillary Clinton -- someone with experience and credibility on the world stage.
In other words, you would want someone like Al Gore -- the improbably charismatic, Academy Award-winning, Nobel Prize-nominated environmental prophet with an army of followers and huge reserves of political and cultural capital at his command.
107. DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE
DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE
Don't tell me not to live,
Just sit and putter,
Life's candy and the sun's
A ball of butter.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade.
Don't tell me not to fly--
I've simply got to.
If someone takes a spill,
It's me and not you.
Who told you you're allowed
To rain on my parade!
I'll march my band out,
I'll beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir.
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it!
But whether I'm the rose
Of sheer perfection,
Or freckle on the nose
Of life's complexion,
The cinder or the shiny apple of its eye,
I gotta fly once,
I gotta try once,
Only can die once, right, sir?
Ooh, love is juicy,
Juicy, and you see
I gotta have my bite, sir!
Get ready for me, love,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Don't bring around a cloud
To rain on my parade!
I'm gonna live and live now,
Get what I want--I know how,
One roll for the whole shebang,
One throw, that bell will go clang,
Eye on the target--and wham--
One shot, one gun shot, and bam--
Hey, PRESIDENT GORE, here I am!
I'll march my band out,
I will beat my drum,
And if I'm fanned out,
Your turn at bat, sir,
At least I didn't fake it.
Hat, sir, I guess I didn't make it.
Get ready for me, love,
'Cause I'm a "comer,"
I simply gotta march,
My heart's a drummer.
Nobody, no, nobody
Is gonna rain on my parade!
I Need To Wake UP
By Melissa Etheridge
Have I been sleeping?
I’ve been so still
Afraid of crumbling
Have I been careless?
Dismissing all the distant rumblings
Take me where I am supposed to be
To comprehend the things that I can’t see
Cause I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now
And as a child
I danced like it was 1999
My dreams were wild
The promise of this new world
Would be mine
Now I am throwing off the carelessness of youth
To listen to an inconvenient truth
That I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now
I am not an island
I am not alone
I am my intentions
Trapped here in this flesh and bone
And I need to move
I need to wake up
I need to change
I need to shake up
I need to speak out
Or something’s got to break up
I’ve been asleep
And I need to wake up
Now
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 06:01 PM by Raksha
that is at best indifferent and at worst actively hostile and in denial. Doesn't matter how much the grassroots wants it or how much they are willing to sacrifice. It's going to take a national effort at the bare minimum, and realistically it will take an international effort.
That simply isn't possible if our so-called "leaders" are actively sabotaging our efforts instead of leading the effort. I'm now reading Earth in the Balance and I'm more convinced of that than ever.
You are the ONLY ONE who believes what Gore believes? What a silly projection! There's plenty of room for everyone, isn't there? I bet he would be THRILLED to hear that one of his "insiders" :eyes: speaks to others in such a condescending and degrading tone. Al models behavior befitting a statesman. You really seem to have a problem with comprehension here. No where did I ever state it was "just me" involved in this cause. I was simply speaking for myself that I am proud to be helping in doing all I can to solve this crisis. That in case you can't see through your own grudge is a good thing. You sound a bit bitter to me, and I think you need to get a handle on that and realize that you are treated as you treat others, and it was YOU who responded to me here, I did nothing to you. And I know I don't know anymore than anyone else about his plans and I never said I did on that score either. Amazing what people will see when they really want to see it. Tell that to the "algore.org" group that never misses a chance to spread false rumors about Mr. Gore's intentions just to get hits on their website, and don't think for one second that I am going to walk on eggshells here with you or anyone else who does nothing but trash me for my opinions here. I suggest you then avail yourself of the options avaiable to ignore me if you find my opinions so repulsive, but then why would you do that when preaching to me is so much more important to you?
86. he is "THE MAN" ..and i remember what he did with the airlines to
try to make Americans safe before the millennium..and what he did was effective at that time..and as a now retired flight crew..i believe in my heart of hearts ..he is the man to turn this country around and to ensure the safety of Americans..as safe as we can be..as we are not safe now at all....
and i say this often..and will repeat is over and over until people get it..the worst security we can have is "false security"...
what we have now is false security.
i am amazed ..such a simple thread and so many feeling the same way!!!
and OMMM..we have gone from 9/11 together working for the safety of others..and i think we both know in our guts..Gore is the Man for NOW..this time in our history... calls for Gore ..and his experience, and his independence, and his balls!! ( sorry no other words come to me but Balls!!...well i could say Gonads...lol)
81. Page 48. And he's got to run. Here's from page 25 --
"Fifty years ago, when the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union was raising tensions in the world and McCarthyism was threatening our liberties at home, President Dwight Eisenhower belatedly said, 'Any who act as if freedom's defenses are to be found in suppression and suspicion and fear confess a doctrine that is alien to America.'"
Or how about --
"Leadership means inspiring us to manage through our fears. Demagoguery means exploiting our fears for political gain."
Sigh.
Here's the wonderfully comic piece 'Goregasm' --
83. Absolutely. I was thinking about the SCOTUS and wondered exactly
why they sold us out in 2000. Have any of them said why or what they were thinking. The problem with our checks and balances safe guards for democracy started the day they chose *ss as the "winner" of the 2000 election. I believe the vote was 5 to 4. We know why Scalia and Thomas voted as they did but what of the other 3 justices? The SCOTUS was fairly balanced at that time - what went wrong?
93. I Offer Another Talented Democrat
Gov. Martin O'Malley. He stood up to Bush when he first entered the White House and tried to take Federal money away from Baltimore. After the assault, Maryland Governor Ehrlich (R) got his marching orders (probably from Rove) to dig up dirt on him. When Ehrlich's henchman couldn't find anything, he made up a story. The henchman was caught and was found to be on Ehrlich's Maryland payroll. He was fired. It appears to me that Clinton is thinking of O'Malley as a running mate. He would be a great one. He would be even better heading a ticket. He is a family guy, has religion (Catholic), his wife is a judge and his dad was as well. He plays guitar and up to a few years ago had his own band. I believe that he is the one Democratic candidate that the Republicans fear most.
127. Gore is the best hope of making me actually reconsider
who I want to receive the nomination. Hillary didn't do jack squat for me last night, same as usual. Obama was heads above everyone else, a man among boys (and a girl, I suppose I should say). Edwards is too much politician for me and Obama shut him down when Edwards tried to come after him about leadership in the anti-war movement. "You're 4.5 years too late" - ha!
What is Obama not saying that Gore would that you people want to hear? Kind of a side note, but I totally don't see how Hillary is the far and away leader in the polls right now.
159. But that's just it
"What is Obama not saying that Gore would that you people want to hear?"
Anyone on that stage last night couldn't -- and haven't -- matched what Gore has actually done. He didn't just wring his hands at Katrina and say "What a shame"; he personally went down there and saved people. He doesn't say "Golly, we oughta do something about the climate crisis"; he does something. And when he sees the direction this country is headed in, he doesn't just shake his head at the downward spiral of the country due to the rapacity of B$ushco and the timidity of the dems; he does something about it in his latest book.
I've just finished reading "An Assault on Reason," and one thing that comes through loud and clear is Mr. Gore's deep love for this country's ideals as expressed in our laws and constitution. I think that would be the reason he would run again: he loves our democracy too much to let it wither away.
I just can't get excited about any other candidate, no matter what they "say."
168. Haven't read his book yet, but picking it up this weekend
From the excerpt that I read in Time, as well as from everything I've heard, he's dead on about how our country has gone astray in many regards. He's helping people to realize that. I just don't think he's going to run. He has too much freedom and is getting too much done to throw himself back into the system that burned him once already. For the time being, saying Gore is the man is a moot point. I don't think he's putting thought into any polls, because he realizes that once he's a candidate again, the novelty of it will wear off, and again there will be those who say he's too stiff, boring, blah blah blah.
I like Gore. If he puts himself into the race, then I'll at least have a couple of favorites as opposed to just one.
Seeing as I can't live in that never-never land, I'm leaving this up to Gore. If he runs, he is most definitely my choice. If he doesn't, he will still be doing magnificent work for this country and the world, and he has my full support either way.
