How did the Dem Candidates Answer "Are The Oil Companies Price Gouging?"....
I know Edwards said he believed they were, and Richardson said he did not believe they were price gouging. What about the others?

Did anyone TIVO this exchange? Which candidates weighed in on this question during the debate?

1. Edwards was the only one to
bring up the fact that they are making record profits and called for an investigation......I sure did enjoy this debate - Edwards definitely was more forceful.

2. All the Democratic candidates received their campaign contribution checks..........
from big oil so THEY will talk around the issue and ultimately do nothing about it.

3. NOT TRUE --Edwards has called for repeal of anti-trust protections for Oil Companies...
You can bet that this got Big Oil's attention. I do not think this is 'talking around the issue.'

Do you have evidence of Big Oil contributions to "all the Democratic candidates'??

8. Please checkout the link below;................
you'll notice that the campaign contributions to both major political parties by the energy sector are almost equal for the current year, while in previous years there has been a hugh disparity favoring the rethugs.

9. If you click on Dems, and look at oil, contribs are 2.5 to 1 in favor of Repubs...
These contributions take into account ALL contributions to all members of Congress.

But I do not see anywhere that our Democratic Candidates are shown receiving any contributions at the site you linked.

Where is the evidence that Edwards received $ from the Oil Companies? WHat about the other Democratic Candidates?

10. Democratic candidates often recieve campaign contruibutions..........
from lobbyists and lawyers representing their clients including big oil and big energy. The following link for the 2004 election regarding campaign contributions shows this to be true.

11. In 2004 Edwards received $48,600 out of $19.09 MILLION from Energy Sector...(0.25%)
From your own link --I do not think this particular information helps your case that Edwards might be receiving substantial contributions from the Big Oil Companies.

Lobbyists and lawyers do not make campaign contributions on behalf of their clients. That is illegal. Besides the breakdown provides a separate category for the two groups you are trying to merge.

13. Lobbyists have to register, but contributions are still individual ....
"Because those laws cap individual contributions - now at $2,300 per campaign - candidates have been turning to well-connected lobbyists to bundle stacks of checks to make up the millions they need to run their campaigns."

THis means that Lobbyists have to register if they meet certain participation rules.

It does not mean that Lobbyists can give money on behalf of their clients, same with Lawyers.

You can track back every individual donation made no matter how they are 'bundled' for convenience sake.

Individual contributions can be stuffed in a Fed-Ex envelope and mailed to a campaign and that is not illegal--because they are still individual contributions.

5. 'WE' have heard this same rhetoric about investigations and doing something...........
Edited on Mon Jun-04-07 09:55 AM by Double T
about the price gouging and every quarter brings in your face announcements from big oil about their record profits and NOTHING is actually ever done about it, except talk.

6. So you think because nothing has been done before, it can't be done in the future?
This is the kind of thinking that fails to inspire voters to choose Democrats over Repubs.

Or do you see no difference between the two?
