Former U.S. commander in Iraq: war is lost.

In “his first interview since he retired last year,” retired Army Lieutenant General Ricardo Sanchez told the Agence France Presse that he believes the war in Iraq is lost. “I think if we do the right things politically and economically with the right Iraqi leadership we could still salvage at least a stalemate, if you will — not a stalemate but at least stave off defeat.” Sanchez “is the highest-ranking former military leader yet to suggest the Bush administration has fallen short in Iraq.”

6. The war is a disaster on every level, but I think using terms like
"lost" plays into Bush's hands. The American people hate the thought of losing a war, and Bush makes hay with that. We should simply get out NOW, and call it what we will. "A strategic redeployment" sounds just fine to me. The point is to get our troops out from the middle of a civil war where they are being recklessly sacrificed. After they are safe, we can play word games.

7. The polls indicate that the American people know it is lost
and don't care that it is lost as much as they care that we get out of there.

Attributing the attitudes of the media, the pundits, and the right wing "astroturf" to the American people does the American people a great disservice.

8. That's all I want to know
These fuggers ignored history, ignored intelligence and fucked up from start to finish because it was all based on lies and deception. Fuck Bush, Sanchez and the entire cabal of stupid, arrogant, greedy, incompetent criminals.

2. Didn't someone else say that recently to much hooting and derision?
I guess it's OK as long as you're not the Senate Majority Leader.

3. Uh-oh! He should expect a letter change his discharge papers
Bush is probably going to be call out the minions proclaiming the Commander in Chief did the right thing replacing a "loser/cut-n-runner/surrendermonkey" like Sanchez with a "winner" like Petreaus.

5. I expect Sanchez to be recalled to active duty immediatly...
then dishonorably discharged. Just like they are trying to do to that Marine.

4. Have you guys ever been to LiveLeak?
It's quite the place: lots of videos, lots of commentary on the videos. People also post news. It is also stiff with frothing right-wing keyboard warriors. You know, The 101st Fighting Keyboarders.

Well, last night, someone posted this story. Oh my, you should see the vitriol that has issued from these genius military strategists. Of course, it all boils down to "Sanchez is an idiot and a traitor. He doesn't know a thing."

Which we all know: What does a General know about fighting a war and military tactics, especially one who commanded the whole megillah in Iraq, compared to someone typing at his computer from mom's basement?

I really don't think there are enough hospitals to hold all these people.
