1. About damn time.
If we are to "clean house" we need him gone. EVEN if only for the appearance of impropriety.

2. Just heard this on the radio...over a dozen charges
Heard it on Ed Schultz and went looking for info. He said it was being reported on CBS, but...

I just want to know why it took them so long to bring indictments.

8. "Let's make a deal...."
The reason they didn't charge him this time last year was because he threatened to sing about a lot of both parties' most treasured money laundering scams. If anyone is wondering why they didn't rush a show trial of a corrupt Democrat to coincide with the very important 2006 election, that is why.

If they're charging him now, it's because they've made him an offer he can't refuse and his lips will be sealed.

He needs to go but I take no comfort in any of it.

13. Hmmm... gonna have to chew on that perspective a bit
At the very least, he should resign from all committees ASAP. Unless, of course, he's going to try and put forth the Tom DeLay defense (which makes NO sense).

Personally, I think the CBC has some egg on their faces over this one. But, it's going to be interesting to see how documents seized from his Capitol offices are going to play out. Where's Denny?

4. Too bad he did not just resign until the whole thing was settled.
He allowed himself to be pilloried in the press, and created a controversy that is still "attached" to democrats..

If he had been cleared, his constituents would have returned him to office.

all this does now is to add one more thing for the rightwing radio propadandists to hang around the necks of democrats who claim to be trying to clean up congress..no matter how often they claim to be trying to..

This is one area where republicans have the edge. they readily jettison people who may create problems for their party, and they can then claim the high ground..

5. He got reelected with the help of
white voters in the suburbs who anticipated he would be in greater trouble in the near future and then they'd field their own candidate. Meanwhile a very capable state senator who sought the seat lost.

11. I can't understand why the national Democrats didn't help Karen Carter
If I'd been running the DCCC every political heavyweight in the Democratic Party would've been down in New Orleans campaigning for Carter, since the runoff happened after the November election. I would've made Jefferson an example to show the country that unlike Republicans, Democrats will toss out their corrupt politicians.

6. Frankly, I was surprised the CBC didn't demand his resignation
Instead, they put Pelosi in a hard position. That was a mistake on their part, IMO. And you're spot on that the Cons are going to use this as a "SEE? SEE??? The Democrats are all corrupt!"

14. Good riddance, what a creep.
Had the nerve to run after the raids and everything, and the people from his district were stupid enough to elect him again. :puke:
