Unofficial "Criticize Fred Thompson for something besides his choice of companionship" thread.
Watch this one as it sinks ever-so-quickly to the bottom even though there's a plethora of stuff on this creep...

Voted YES on maintaining ban on Military Base Abortions. (Jun 2000)
Voted YES on restricting rules on personal bankruptcy. (Jul 2001)
Voted YES on restricting class-action lawsuits. (Dec 1995)
Voted YES on school vouchers in DC. (Sep 1997)
Voted YES on $75M for abstinence education. (Jul 1996)

27. She's not really a trophy wife--
--she's a lawyer, and Thompson didn't discard an older first wife in order to marry her. However, she sure looks like one, and I say that Dems should use this as a political weapon.

39. Yes. we should.
Having a "trophy wife" probably picks up a few votes from male voters, but it should be outweighed by its negative impact on women. The combo with voting for abstinence education also needs some smart framing and then could possibly be used against him.

41. "Negative impact on women." If the wife is all we can come up with,
we're in a sorry state indeed.

His voting record on women's issues is hideous, even worse than his voting record on most other issues. That's the whole point of this thread.

'Meet The Press" aired a brief interview with former GOP senator and "Law & Order" star Fred Thompson Sunday on his possible '08 run. Host Tim Russert added after the interview that Thompson was asked what he would do as president, and Thompson replied, "Lots of things." Russert said that Thompson was asked whether he was prepared to elaborate on any of those things, and Thompson replied, "No."

Moreover, keeping political dialogue at the level of the Jerry Springer show always benefits Republicans.

Thompson Favors Libby Pardon

The 30-month sentence handed down today for I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby could become a rallying cry for Fred D. Thompson, the all-but declared Republican presidential candidate.

Mr. Thompson, who has viewed Mr. Libby’s prosecution as a severe miscarriage of justice, told Fox News recently that if he were president, he would pardon Mr. Libby, the former top aide to Vice President Dick Cheney who was convicted of perjury and obstruction of justice in the Valerie Plame Wilson case.

Now that he is on the verge of declaring his presidential bid, Mr. Thompson may have the opportunity to do just that.

Aside from McCain-Feingold, in his six years in the Senate, Thompson was the primary sponsor of only four pieces of legislation, none of any significance. “I worked for the music business for years when Fred Thompson was the senator from Tennessee,” Hilary Rosen, former chief lobbyist for the Recording Industry Association of America and now a Democratic strategist, said on MSNBC. “So I worked with him in his office fairly regularly, and I have to say, as nice a guy as he is, he is lazy. He was a lazy senator.”

“I’ve been friendly with Thompson for years,” Wall Street Journal columnist John Fund said on The Journal Editorial Report. In the Senate, Fund said, Thompson “had a reputation for being a little lazy.”

Even Thompson’s high school football coach, Garner Ezell, told the Nashville Tennessean, “He was smart, but he was lazy.”

While Thompson as senator conducted an intensive four-month investigation of campaign finance abuses, he kept a lean calendar except for meals at the Capital Grille or the Prime Rib.
