I know it is. I just saw a commercial for it. According to my BMI I'm obese. I should buy this book and do everything it tells me to. No matter what. It says that my confidence will increase as well. I could use some confidence to go with my new 6-pack abs (that I'll get from reading "Dianetics"), right?

2. Your skepticism is caused by alien ghosts haunting your brain.
If you keep pushing checks at me, I can make them stop. Also, you should donate your house, your car and all of your time.

5. The book works
if you buy a lot of them, tie them together, then do weightlifting.

I actually read that book about 15 or 20 years. Someone had left it in my neighbor's apartment, brand new, she couldn't find out who left it. I felt that no book should go unread. (I can be such a fool.)

After reading it, my motto became:

If I can read Dianetics, I can read anything.

7. OMG! That fucking criminal organization needs to be shut down once and for all.
The people at the top of the organization are a bunch of mobsters. People may make fun of their beliefs, but the real problem isn't that, every religion has nutty crap, it's the way they use the "e-meter" (a primitive LIE DETECTOR!) to get people's personal information and then they blackmail them with it. That's why all these big stars go in, but they never come out. They'd have all their dirty secrets aired in the public.

I've watched hours of hearings on the BS they've tried. These are truly horrible people.

To this day, the infiltration of our government by Scientology's upper echelons remains the biggest infiltration in our history.

No prosecutor or judge will take them on, because they personally destroy if not actually kill their major enemies. They send out private detectives to troll through your background to dig up any little thing that could be used against you.

If they don't find anything, then they harass you. If that doesn't work, and you're not famous, they'll consider killing you in a "suicide" or a "car accident".

They use the same methods as the CIA, and because they don't have to worry about any oversight or laws, they are nimble.

The South Park people are lucky more didn't happen to them.

25. Well...I can understand your POV, there are many things that
seem "untouchable", but we should all question our beliefs from time to time. In the case of Scientology, Unarians and a host of other "new" religions, it is important to look at the source. Hubbard was a Science Fiction writer, not that good of one either, and he made the statement that he "was going to start a new religion". He did, based on some rather interesting aspects of space and time. And just like some Western religions, when questioned about the "reality" of the religion, he would say that Thetans, and others were controlling the persons thoughts, and that's why the could not "see the light". Over the years, I have questioned many things about my own religion, Christianity, and I have found many things lacking in the Common Sense of the whole thing. But, like w/Hubbard, instead of Thetans, I was told satan was controlling my thoughts, and that's why I would question the Bible and the teachings of the "wise". Satan does not control my thinking, and neither do Thetans; thinking is the very essence of human life, questioning is what makes life worth living...:)

Personally, I love discussing religion w/Rabbis, they have questioned and thought about things for a very long time...much of which makes great sense this day in age...:)

Question authority, it does the spirit good...:D

27. Well, a lot of the "sense" the older religions seem to make comes from years of answering the same
questions, over and over. Plus they speak with authority because they have had years of indoctrination and training. Scientology, meanwhile, is relatively new.

I compare Scientology to a more extreme form of Bokononism, where the religion was started almost as satire or a joke, but then just grew.

I don't see it as having much substance, but then again I don't see it as any more or less sacred than any other organized religion. Only major difference is that the big ones have been around longer.

30. well, a lot of that comes from the faith aspect of it. And this happens in many
those who practice put faith in the religion, and therefore in many cases how the practice is, well, practiced. So they naturally wouldn't question it. And any outside observer who does question it is, well, quite frankly, an outsider.

31. Faith has it's place...but when confronted w/fact, all other bets
are off.

People had faith that the earth was flat...their faith proved wrong. People had faith that the sun moved around the earth...their afith proved them wrong.

Who knows, sometimes faith is a good thing, but it cannot stand against fact...:)
