Two days after the Russian test, Vladimir Putin said simply, "It wasn't us who initiated a new round of the arms race."

Of all the problems that are exacerbating US-Russian tensions today, none compares for destructiveness with Bush's misguided missile defense project. The irony, of course, is that this reigniting of the old tensions in the name of security leads to less security, not more. The tragedy is that it ignores the lesson that had already been so well learned four decades ago.

A consensus has lately developed that the Bush administration's worst legacy will be tied to the disastrous war in Iraq, but that may be wrong. The resuscitation of the fantasy of missile defense, and with it the raising from the dead of the arms race, may result in catastrophes in comparison to which Iraq is benign.

1. Yes, it's part of their strategy
to rule the world. Nuclear proliferation has always been apart of it.

8. Good news about the Cold War.... Very Very troops died
fighting the Cold War... But the military industrial complex made trillions of dollars.

IMHO it really pisses Bush and Cheney off having to buy trucks and flak vests when there is Star Wars dreams that could be funded

9. It's the only thing he's done RIGHT!
Think about it. The Iraq war was supposed to happen, read the PNAC papers, but he failed miserably in executing it properly. So, the fat cats got fatter off the juicy government contracts, but because he fucked up so badly, he no longer has the support of the people. Now, the notion of going into Iran is practically off limits as far as the electorate is concerned (not that it would stop them) which really fucks up their plans.

This little non-news story is EXACTLY what they want. Do you have any idea how many Bush/Cheney cronies are on the precipice of a financial windfall if a new arms race is started? They're practically salivating at the notion. The fact that the media isn't talking about this, means this "mistake" has been a resounding success so far.
