No thread about William Jefferson this morning? |
|
I was expecting some discussion of his indictment here.
Entrapment? Attempt by the Rove machine to knock Democrats off their track? May he just is corrupt and should resign and be punished? What should Pelosi's response be?
Anyone?

1. If he's guilty, he needs to pay the consequences. |
|
Why should there be a need to spin anything?

2. Absolutely! Party has nothing to do with my desire to remove corrupt politicians... |

from our government. If he's corrupt, then he should be held responsible for his actions.
If he's not corrupt, then I hope that he's able to completely prove that the allegations against him are wrong and clear his name.

5. And what if the government just can not prove the case? |
|
Does he get from you what he gets from the legal system, or does he have the burden in your eyes?

7. He's not my representative, so I don't have to come to a decision in reference to him. |
|
My point is that I don't want to have a double standard where I assume that if a Republican is indicted, he/she's automatically guilty, and if a Democrat is indicted, he/she is innocent and is just being set up. Maybe he's innocent, and maybe he's not.

3. He is innocent until proven guilty |
|
just as scoot was before he was found guilty
That said, once a jury of his peers passes judgment, the book should be thrown at him if he is guilty
Oh and he should resign
I don't abide corruption, I don't care who does it

4. everyone should just wait to see if the government can prove he committed a crime or not |
|
Pelosi doesn't vote in the second district of Louisiana, I don't know what response she should have. The voters will determine his fate as they did last year by re-electing him.

6. If he's guilty of wrongdoing (and I think he is) then he should go to jail. |

9. I do wonder how partisan this prosecution is |
|
On the face of it, it looks bad for Jefferson but this is the same Justice Department headed by Alberto Gonzalez- which has engaged in politically motivated investigations ("voter fraud") so part of me is very skeptical.
