Libby's "tough" judge
I find it interesting that the media is so hyped-up about the "tough" judge that sentenced Libby to 30 months plus restitution. The media, by its nature, is conservative, and conservatives are supposed to be "tough on crime." They tout themselves to be the standard bearers of the Constitution, the rule of law.

So why do the media and its minions think the Libby verdict was so "tough?" Libby was found guilty of perjury and obstruction of justice in the outing of an undercover CIA agent who had worked toward the security of our nation in the time frame of 9-11. Conservatives by their own definition should be demanding Libby's head, never mind a lousy 30 months.

The US has one of the most populated prison systems in the world, and is proud of it. Until recently, the US was on a short list, along with third world dictatorships, to hand down death penalty sentences to juvenile offenders. The US even incarcerates people for years without reading them their rights, granting them habeas corpus, or letting them know what they have been charged for.

Shortly, the Republicans presidencial contenders will again debate hypotheticals in support of the demise of the Geneva Conventions and the Constitution itself so they can muscle flex to prove how "tough" they are. It's the ultimate hypocrisy that these "Constitution-loving" GOP politicians want to go easy on Libby, who undermined our national security, yet are willing to harshly punish those considered "the enemy" without even a proper trial.

Conservatives consistent with their own doctrine should be screaming that the Libby judge wasn't tough enough.
