Bill D. Moyers (born June 5, 1934 as Billy Don Moyers) is an American journalist and public commentator.

Born in Hugo, Oklahoma, and raised in Texas, Moyers began his journalism career at age 16 as a cub reporter at the Marshall News Messenger in Marshall, Texas. He and his wife, Judith Davidson Moyers, have three grown children and five grandchildren. He is currently president of the Schumann Center for Media and Democracy and lives in New York City. In April 2007, Moyers returned to PBS with Bill Moyers Journal. <1>

4. Began his job at 16 as a cub reporter

says it all. That's how that generation got into news, as kids still in high school, writing about fires and other town news after school. If they were good, they got evening jobs while they went to college. By the time they got out of college, they already had great track records as journalists who went out and found stories.

Consider today's crop. They're mostly suburban kids who didn't have access to stringer work. They went into college from high school with only dead end McJobs in their resumes, and graduated from J school with little else there. They have no clue how to wander around, getting people to talk, waiting for stuff to happen and jumping on it. They only know how to research on their computers and rewrite wire stories plus press releases that are dropped into their laps.

And that is the other reason the media suck.

6. I didn't know Bill Moyers was a Gemini,

but I should have been able to make an educated guess. A couple of weird synchronicities: My late husband's birthday was June 4, 1945 and his father's side of the family also lived in Marshall, Texas where his grandfather had a general store. Kind of a weird place for Jewish immigrants to end up, but they did!

Oh yeah...my husband was also named Bill, and he was a big fan of Bill Moyers.
