I do have a video capture card and can play the a/v through it but I never actually did it...

Now, I haven't uploaded videos, but I have made animations for work. The idea is to use the capture card and accompanying software to read from a video source and save the output movie. The catch with youTube is that the movie has to be split into segments of 10 min. or 100 MB long. (I think videos on Google Video can be longer.) Then upload the segments.
