Reading this article made me realize how fantastic Michelle Obama is as a person and as a political campaigner:

Michelle Obama takes the stage and speaks for the next 14 minutes without notes. She begins with what appears to be just another anecdote: how she met her husband.

She was "an associate at a big corporate law firm" in Chicago and "the firm was abuzz about this hotshot law student named Barack Obama," she says.

"And I immediately made a set of assumptions about who this guy was based on, you know, superficial things like the fact that he had a funny name and the fact that he was raised in Hawaii and he was biracial," Michelle says. "And I have to tell you, I kind of thought any black guy who was raised in Hawaii had to be a little off!"

The gym rocks with laughter.

And that made me further think, has there ever been a time when not only have we had such a great selection of candidates, but we also have such a great collection of candidate spouses? I mean think about it:

Michelle Obama

Elizabeth Edwards

Bill Clinton

Has there ever been a more impressive set of first spouses in a Presidential primary? Ever? Definitely not -- these guys are as good as it gets.

And I liked Howard Dean's wife (Judith Steinberg Dean, the doctor), as well. I also liked Teresa Heinz, but the general consensus was that she wasn't that good on the campaign trail.

We should not exclude those wonderful candidates and their spouses.

is a candidate for President as well. No votes have been cast as of yet. The big three are not the only people running.

Note the word "First" there. I'm guessing it was a dig at the fact that McCain, Giuliani, Gingrich, Thompson, can't stay married.
