SCARBOROUGH: Have you seen Fred Thompson's wife?

CRAWFORD: Oh, yeah.

SCARBOROUGH: You think she thinks she works the pole?

CRAWFORD: That's what a Hollywood career will do for you, I guess.

SCARBOROUGH: What do you mean?

CRAWFORD: You get wives like that.

SCARBOROUGH: I mean, look at that guy. God bless him, I love his voice. But I mean, you know. He ain't Robert Redford in "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid."

CRAWFORD: Well I would like to see him back into politics because I think he's a lousy actor.

1. Fred Thompson has never been known as a purist
He laughed about the nude young gal in his convertible when stopped by Florida police.

2. I'm surprised Scarborough got away with it
especially after what happened to Imus.

12. Any person who thinks this is anywhere near as bad as Imus has no idea what they are talking about

18. I think it was
They are speaking about a specific person, who to my knowledge did not deserve to be spoken of as if she is a stripper. She is the wife of a Presidential candidate and potential first lady. If this were a wife of a Democratic candiate we would be up in arms.

I realize the Rutgers comment was racist as well as sexist and they were not public figures. Both comments over stepped a line.

5. You took his words out of context
He was talking with someone from the show about the vertical pole as excercise. That is where the pole comment came from.

8. Here is your context
"WORKING THE POLE," TAKE TWO:
"Lest any of our readers imagine that the Plank does not have the eyes of the powerful affixed to it at all times, it turns out that the folks at Joe Scarborough's show noticed my earlier item, about an apparently off-color joke about Jeri Thompson and pole dancing, and were eager to explain the reference.

It seemed a little hard to believe, frankly, that they'd be able to mitigate the blunder, but I think they did, at least to a degree. It turns out that before the comment, Scarborough had been talking to Tracy Burgess, the WFAN news anchor and, evidently, a bit of a fitness freak. (She apparently also used to appear as a guest on Imus.) Burgess explained that "I am taking vertical pole.... It's a pole and you exercise on it." There was a little minimally risque banter on the subject before Scarborough declared, "Housewives across America taking to the pole... for health and fitness. Hey, have you seen Fred Thompson's wife?... You think she works the pole?"

So, yes, there was a bit of wink-wink, nudge-nudge, do-you-think-Fred-Thompson's-much-younger-wife-pole-dances-to-stay-fit banter. But no, Scarborough wasn't calling her a stripper.

10. I stand by my comment. It was tacky and sexist to bring her up after the segment.

11. That doesn't pass the sniff test
What if Scarborough's guest had done a report on monkeys at the zoo, then quipped, "So speaking of monkeys, what's the latest on John Conyers?"

Please don't ask us to buy what you're selling or insult our intelligence by chalking it up to a "wink-wink, nudge-nudge." Why bring his wife into this discussion at all?

Some stereotypes are prevalent, and he just stepped in the shit on one of them.

15. It was a double entendre
and a tasteless one. But get used to it. She dresses and presents herself as kind of a hoochie mama.

Now, lest I get flamed for "hoochie mama" I'd give my front teeth to look like that.

17. Well, except for the fact that the "exercise" bit began because of strippers!

It was still a cheap, sexist, and lousy comment.

14. LOL.
You are here to disrupt and nothing else.

What if someone wrongfully implied that you or your daughter/wife/mother was a "pole dancer" when she was actually an accomplished attorney?

I'm sure you'd take that as a compliment. :eyes:

In fact, I prefer to think of it that way.
