Computer Virus Warning...my computer is badly infected hubby says it is from
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 12:00 AM by greenbriar
either things I have looked at from here or from my space

I obviously don't think it is from here because I wouldn't be risking the other computer.

he says he gets 1000 attempts a day from DU trying to hack into the firewall. said something like it was reverse packets or something...I am not exactly sure what he said, but he was specific...

WE KNOW it is not from DU, but possibly from disruptors who are trying to mess with things...

anyway my puter has to be put down and rebirthed...I have lost all of my things...

Just wanted you all to be careful

26. I think you just answered your own question.
"I am on the 'junk' puter we let our daughters friend use"

Sounds like it's time to start monitoring the sites your daughter's friend visits. Better yet, wipe it clean and don't let her use it anymore -- or just get yourself your own computer, and let the kid continue to shoot that one all to hell.

Whatever it is, it's not DU. And if anything is probing your firewall 1,000 times a day, and your firewall is blocking the probes, then your firewall is doing its job. (And there is such a thing as setting the sensitivity of your firewall too high; you may be blocking a lot of innocuous, and sometimes necessary, communications between your computer and the outside world.)

11. Okay, seriously if it is a trojan horse you need to
get a virus checking program...or go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ and let them get rid of it.

If you are using XP, remember to turn off your restore points and run it in safemode.

Clear all your caches and then turn off the PC for about 30 seconds.

That should do it.

Remember to turn restore back on after you are sure the virus is gone.

19. I hope you get it fixed.
People who write computer viruses deserve hot, slow death IMO.

Goodluck, I've got to get to bed, but if ya want I can PM you tomorrow a step by step way to get rid of the virus if you cannot find anyone that can get rid of it. I'm sure the DU Computer Group can get it fixed for you.

I kill computer viruses for a living (among other things).

It's a 5 year old computer and runs like a top.

I seriously doubt DU is your problem.

20. I suggest that you find better tech support
Many of the security programs falsely report normal web interactions as attack. People then complain to ISP and content providers. This is referred to in the tech support circles as "A Goober with a Firewall", and its not a respectful term.

Get decent anti virus software as well as anti spyware tools. Good free versions are out there. Practice safe software and do not download files or open emails unless you trust the source. Keep your operating system, whatever it is, up to date, and otherwise be smart.

If you have issues, its not from reading DU or My Space.

I don't know much about computers, but I know that I have gone to links posted by newbies and hostiles that have caused me all sorts of cookie/adaware hell.

Good luck to you. :hi:

23. IRS Warns Of Virus Email Scam
The Internal Revenue Service says there’s a new email scam making the rounds, masquerading as a stern warning from the tax collection agency. Those who click on an email attachment with the bogus message will unleash a nasty virus on their computers.

The e-mail purporting to be from IRS Criminal Investigation falsely states that the person is under a criminal probe for submitting a false tax return to the California Franchise Tax Board.

The e-mail seeks to entice people to click on a link or open an attachment to learn more information about the complaint against them. The IRS warned people that the e-mail link and attachment is a Trojan Horse that can take over the person’s computer hard drive and allow someone to have remote access to the computer.

The IRS urged people not to click the link in the e-mail or open the attachment.

Similar e-mail variations suggest a customer has filed a complaint against a company and the IRS can act as an arbitrator. The latest versions appear aimed at business taxpayers as well as individual taxpayers.

25. gb have you
installed any software or "freeware" recently? Has anyone downloaded any free software? Does anyone using that computer use it for music downloads and maybe has installed one of the "file sharing" programs?

Boot the computer up and then do ctrl alt del at the same time, choose applications and tell me what's running. We can start there to see if anything malicious is running.

27. Yours isn't the only one infected. :(
Mine has been infected for near on two weeks now. It is a virus I can't find nor can my anti virus pick it up. But I know I have it by certain things that happens when I first start it up in the morning. I am also locked out of my task manager (CTRL/ALT/DELETE) and have no access to anything under the Start/Run menu.

It is at the point where I have pulled out every hair I have had in my hair, and am giving up. If the computer shits itself completely then so be it.

Good luck with yours and what you have to do though. :)
