I'd like to place a bet with any of you. Will Libby have to go to jail |
|
right now, or will he remain free until his pardon is heard?
I'll bet a $25 donation to DU that this Judge is going to say get your butt in the slammer now, and let your lawyers TRY to work on your appeal.
If I win, everyone who disagrees with me has to donate $25 to DU. If I'm wrong, DU sstill get's at least $25!
Any takers?

1. The Pardon Papers Are No Doubt Already On Their Way to Bush**'s Desk |

Bush** will pardon him, just because he can.

by all accounts I've read, he will NOT be free until his appeals are finished.

don't know if the judge will put libby in the slammer while the appeals go through -- but I think he should. Libby has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years, and I suspect that bush would pardon him right after the '08 election or as bush is heading out the door in jan '09 - this would have libby seeing jail time for at least 18 months
If Libby remains a good and loyal bushie he'll be rewarded with some cushy job at Halliburton after being released. If he plays let's make a deal and had a sudden restoration of memory...he could avoid jail time, but would probably be screwed as far as a future cushy job goes.
If he doesn't go directly to jail (do not collect $200) the appeal will be dragged out long enough to time a pardon at the end of the bush reign.

7. If he has let it go this long without coming forth with the truth, |
|
why would they be obligated to give him any leniency if he DOES come forth with the truth? Good heavens, he's had plenty of time to open up, they've spent millions of dollars trying to get at the truth, so I would be compelled to say, "Hey, thanks for finally telling the truth, but you're a day late and a dollar short. Be a good boy in prison and we MAY reduce your sentence, but you had your chance, many, many times and you blew it."

depends on how determined Fitzgerald is to get to the bottom of the outing and what info/leads he already has an how strong of a case he can build out of that without Libby's help
if Fitzgerald has hit a brick wall then a miraculous restoration of Libby's memory may be worth leniency...

9. He's going to jail, at least until his appeal is over |
|
After that, Bush will (if he's smart) try to pardon him as quickly as possible so as to prevent the possibility that good ol' Scooter will cut a deal and start ratting out his buddies in the White House in exchange for a shortened sentence.
