Credibility of JFK terror case questioned
Source: CAROL EISENBERG

When U.S. Attorney Roslynn Mauskopf described the alleged terror plot to blow up Kennedy Airport as "one of the most chilling plots imaginable," which might have caused "unthinkable" devastation, one law enforcement official said he cringed.

The plot, he knew, was never operational. The public had never been at risk. And the notion of blowing up the airport, let alone the borough of Queens, by exploding a fuel tank was in all likelihood a technical impossibility.

And now, with a portrait emerging of alleged mastermind Russell Defreitas as hapless and episodically homeless, and of co-conspirator Abdel Nur as a drug addict, Mauskopf's initial characterizations seem more questionable -- some go so far as to say hyped.

"I think her comments were over the top," said Michael Greenberger, director of the Center for Health and Homeland Security at the University of Maryland. "It was a totally overstated characterization that doesn't comport with the facts."

11. Bloomberg's response is worth repeating
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 06:33 AM by Jersey Devil
"There are lots of threats to you in the world. There's the threat of a heart attack for genetic reasons. You can't sit there and worry about everything. Get a life," he said.

That "What, me worry?" attitude pretty much sums up Bloomberg's advice to New Yorkers on the terror plot. As far as he was concerned, the professionals were on it, so New Yorkers shouldn't let it tax their brains.

"You have a much greater danger of being hit by lightning than being struck by a terrorist," he added.

This guy has as much credibilty as does Busholini. Remember the Library Tower plot that Busholini said was foiled? Bushlini called it the "Liberty Tower"

9. Daughter of one of the arrestees weighs in
http://www.news24.com/News24/World/News/0,,2-10-1462_2125074,00.html

The four suspects in an alleged terror plot to bomb a New York airport were set up in an elaborate plan by the US Republican party to retain hold of the White House, the daughter of an arrested suspect claimed on Tuesday.

Huda Ibrahiim, daughter of Amir Kareem Ibrahiim, one of four men accused of plotting acts of terrorism against the United States, said US justice officials had engaged in entrapment in breaking up the alleged plot.

Huda, 20, speaking on behalf of the Trinidad and Tobago and the Guyanese Shi'ite Muslim community, read from a prepared statement in a press conference at a hotel in Port Of Spain.

She said the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) informant key to breaking up the alleged plot had presented himself as an Islamic missionary from the United States while visiting the homes of Abdul Kadir and Amir Ibrahiim.

12. As soon as they started acting like..
... if you blew up a tank the whole pipeline would blow, I knew they were full of shit. It don't work that way, but I suppose the "average American" is ignorant enough to think it would.

14. Traveling Is Bad Enough These Days
If the sticker shock of rising plane tickets aren't enough to keep you home this summer...then going through a tense TSA security check sure will be. We're still taking off shoes because of some screwed up nutcase on an International flight over 5 years ago...I haven't seen shoe bombs turning up in any security sweeps, but our feet are under scrutiny. At least my wife can bring her water bottle on the plane, but even that gets the once over...ya never know what you can blow up with tap water (as opposed to the $2 bottles they "offer" on the concourse). People now dread traveling due to the accumulation of these scares and bragadaggio that turned out to be baseless.

Bloomberg gets it...his city relies on summer tourist business and a scare at JFK could hurt the city. What's amazing is how many times these plots get debunked and this regime still rushes out with these scares and crap...lowering the bar every time and making this country even more vulnerable for the next attack...and it sure won't be at an airport.
