Tiananmen Sq forgotten by young Chinese students.
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 01:59 PM by firefox_fan
Hi, I was watching a PBS segment on the Tiananmen Sq events last night.

They did a little experiment and showed the famous picture of the protester standing in front of the ominous line of tanks to a few undergraduates at a top Chinese University. It was shocking to see their blank faces: They had no idea what that was!... I suppose the censorship machine is working very well...

Try the same at an American University.

2. Hmmm, good idea...
But perhaps in China you cannot even Google it!

3. lol, most college kids *here* don't know squat about US history
try googling some polls on college kids' knowledge about basic, elementary US history. It'll make you cry.

5. They haven't been taught a thing about that
especially about how widespread the labor support for the students in the square, itself, was. They have never been exposed to even a still picture of the man stopping the line of tanks, much less the film segment.

The Chinese haven't distorted the history of the uprising, they've obliterated it. We in the rest of the world have to be the collective memory of that country for that place and time.

But they could find out very easily... in China, I doubt they actually could that easily...
