Anyone know of a left-leaning Gun Rights group? |
|
I'm not a big fan of the NRA - I don't see them as protecting gun rights but lobbying for the firearm industry. If the NRA really supported gun rights, they'd work twice as hard to reverse the assault weapons ban but give in on background checks and a national database.

3. Yes but that's all state by state |
|
I'm hoping for a gun-fingerprint database that all Law Enforcement has access to.
Also, Gun Shows should be illegal unless they ship the guns after the background check.

For every sale of a firearm by a federally licensed dealer (and all gun dealers have federal licenses), the background of the buyer gets checked. Most states use the National Instant Check System (NICS) database. Some have their own alternative systems that meet certian federal standards.
Also, Gun Shows should be illegal unless they ship the guns after the background check.
Gun show transactions are subject to the exact same laws, regulations, and procedures as transactions that occur in gun stores. For example, here in California a buyer has to do federal and state paperwork, and there is a 10-day wait for delivery.
I'm hoping for a gun-fingerprint database that all Law Enforcement has access to.
They've had "ballistic fingerprint" databases in New York and Maryland for several years, and not a single crime has been solved with either one.
A federal database would have very limited value. Ballistic markings change gradually as a gun is used or worked on, and change dramatically when parts like barrels and firing pins are changed.

7. Actually, there is a gay gun group. Look up the Pink Pistols. |
|
It's a gay-oriented gun rights group. Their motto is "Armed Gays Don't Get Bashed" :)

10. There are a lot of them. |

Not neccesarily "left-wing", but certainly politically neutral on all issues and encouraging responsible laws.
FWIW, keep in mind that left-wing may not mean "agrees with you". Many of us left-wing gun owners happen to oppose the national database concept. You can probably find some group that agrees with your positions, but you'll have to do some searching. None are as big as the NRA though.

11. A true gun rights group doesn't "give in" on any gun control legislation. |
|
"I'm not a big fan of the NRA - I don't see them as protecting gun rights but lobbying for the firearm industry".
Not so fast...
When the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Firearms Act" was being debated and being voted on, it was the NRA that yanked the legislation because the anti-gun crowd tacked-on several anti-RKBA amendments (including the reauthorization of the AWB).
If they had cared more about the firearms industry over "protecting gun rights", they would have let the bill go to a vote with the amendments attached.
"If the NRA really supported gun rights, they'd work twice as hard to reverse the assault weapons ban...
What "assault weapons ban"?
The NRA ensured in 2004 that it sunsetted and in 2005 (I believe), successfully killed any further attempts to attach it as an amendment to the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Firearms Act" (which passed without any anti-RKBA amendments).
but give in on background checks and a national database."
Who do you think assisted in the drafting of the current Brady background check and is also supportive of expanding the current system to include mental health records?
As far as a "national database" goes...
No way... no how is that even close to being acceptable.

15. Not that I know, but there are hunting&fishing groups that are steeering left |
|
Edited on Sun Jun-10-07 10:18 AM by fishnfla
Conservation groups along the lines of Ducks Unlimited and deer hunting groups, even the Ruffed Grouse Society that are generally, not totally, facing up to GOP interests like logging and mining (like oil drilling in ANWAR,
I think there are many gun owners in these groups....that are interested in other things than gun laws.
Out west, even some ranchers are becoming aligned with these groups, and the Sierra Club, against the GOP
Politicsmakes strange bedfellows
Edit to add: I should say, "Not that I am aware of, but" sorry
