Mississippi, Louisiana, and Kentucky have off-year state elections this year.
I don't think that there's much hope for anyone but Haley Barbour in the gubernatorial election. The strongest Democratic candidate for governor this time is John Arthur Eaves, and I just can't get too excited about him (unless someone can convince me that there's some big reason to be enthusiastic about him). Not much hope in the lieutenant governor's race, either.

There were rumors that former AG Mike Moore (who took on big tobacco and won) and former legislator John Grisham (the author) were contemplating running this yeaer, but it appears that neither will do so.

So it looks like we'll have Pork Jowls at the helm for another four years. :( Pity us. *sigh*
