Two things That Piss me Off |
|
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 08:11 PM by hnmnf
1. Why does Fox Noise feel the need to show pictures of random hispanic people when talking about Illegal Immigration? Today Billo decided to show a picture of a woman walking with a stroller, a businessman in a suit walking on the street, and a couple. And they want to claim to not being anti-hispanic? Oh and he peddled loss of white-male power and the two party system if we allow these people to be citizens.
2. So I looked up the definition of Amnesty, and every definition has pardon in it. So putting aside the bullshit argument that making illegal immigrants pay a 5,000 fine among other things is amnesty, if they are so against pardoning these people, why not feel the same way about Scooter Libby? So the guy that maliciously breaks the law should get off scott free, but the people who are trying to make a better life for themselves, well, they'll be democrats not Repbulicans so Throw em the book!

1. Good points. I don't favor conflating Libby, though, with immigration. |
|
The "amnesty" label, as applied to immigration, is a red herring. A popular talking point all over, but it boxes a number of issues in a drive through format. It's the fast food of political discussion.
Libby's issue is more clear cut. He was found guilty. If Mr. Bush, or whoever makes the decisions in the White House  , chooses to pardon him, it has nothing to do with immigration.
Again, I see your analogy, but I don't think we ought to posit one in relation to the other.

2. Along your reasoning, the thing that always bothered me most |
|
about the vitriol about them breaking the law, is that they didn't cross the border to rob us, or murder us, or rape our women. They come here to work for an honest wage. Until we force our government to change our foreign policy about proping up governments like Mexico who won't do anything about making jobs and decent wages available to their citizens, I refuse to accept the illegal, breaking the law argument because it's an unjust law that punishes the victims of their government with our complicity.
Also, when a leader of a country like Hugo Chavez tries to provide the poor working classes in his country with the tools to make a decent living to raise their children, we trash him. We should be thanking him for giving Venezuelans a reason to stay in their country and not immigrate here.

3. What would make a neat satire |
|
would be a newspaper from, say, 1848, showing the threat of immigrants, with woodcut drawings of - who else - Bill O- representing the drunkard, the fighter, the lazy bum, and the "idolitor Catholic", which were some of the descriptions used to describe the Irish coming to America at the time.

4. Faux Noise isn' t telling the truth, they're only selling a point of view point |
|
They're very skilled at appearing to present information without commentary, but when you listen and look closely, they are constantly pushing their POV. If you haven't seen it yet, watch the documentary "Outfoxed", it really pins down the techniques and manipulation they use influence opinion.
