On Hardball: Donny Deutsch gives best reasons Gore WILL be next president!
Deutsch answers the Hardball question, "Who's the hot brand"

DEUTSCH: "Al Gore.
A brand is a set of values that people could
believe in. Right now Al Gore has it all. He
is the quintessential outsider because he's not in it.
He's the quintessential guy who's been there.
He's got the experience. He's passionate. He's
got his cause. He's green. He's 'I don't care.
I'm going tell it like it is.' His marketing
machine, particularly if he wins the Nobel
Peace Prize... I think he is an unbeatable
candidate. I think he will be the next President
Of the United States."

And now with the prestigious award from Spain.
Think about it. Gore has all his bases covered.

4. Except........his 'I don't care. I'm going to tell it like it is" isn't a sure thing
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 08:19 PM by Gloria
When I saw him reverting to his political self as he said that the Democrats were in a "tough spot" with regard to ending the Iraq War (during all the appearances in support of Assault on Reason, ironically, speaking in a manner that seemed to be what he was criticizing the political scene for doing), I saw a standard politician instead of the passionate, inspiration outsider that we prefer to focus on.

I would be very afraid about his running, esp. if he gets into the clutches of cautious handlers. He would lose if that happened.

27. I Don't Believe He Was Being Political
The Democrats were and are in a much tougher position on Iraq than many people here realize. Gore has been there in both the Senate and White House. He knows how the game is run and how things play out.

8. Hillary is a brand too. So is Edsel.
Edited on Wed Jun-06-07 08:38 PM by librechik
My point is the Pukkkes are adept at using our own branding against us. And we buy right in to their abuse, cuz it's so important to us to be liked and seen for the good people we are, we liberals. We get all defensive and they point at us and laugh, cuz they "got" us.

I know branding is key, however it is the same as selling your soul to the devil. You no longer control the message. That's why (though we bitterly complain about it) the Democrats won't set a clear platform agenda. They know it's only giving the Right the weapons to use against us. However, we need to stoo letting them use our positives as weapons.

The only thing that "works" against these guys is throwing back their dirty techniques right on them.

But then we are just like them.

Our only hope is to stop playing their game, and being hurt by their words about us, Be adult, clear and proud of who we are because our positions are more mature, enlightened and positive for mankind as a whole. We are correct, no matter what those idiots say. And we need to be clear and precise about what idiots and coverup liars they are, call them out on it and watch them run.

That's what we need from our candidates, every one of whom (except Obama at this point) is at some level compromised by recent abject postures before the right over things they should have stood up and fought for/against. So they are not being clear and confident but obfuscating and waffling. So we aren't going to get it from them.

10. I I really appreciate your idealism and realize
it can be discouraging. Politics is a good thing. Sure
it seems like we are playing games and in a sense we are
but it is not an evil game. Sure there are some things
I would like to see changed. I too feel too many compromises
have to made in order to win. Even for Obama to win in
the system we have now, he too will compromise.

We have to work on our party. As Dr Dean says--it will
take time.

13. I have no doubt things will improve eventually
pendula always swing back the other way.

And all things tend toward congeniality.

Politics is fascinating as a spectator sport. Less if you are actually in the grinder. Glad I merely watch.

25. he has the best tv show I don't watch: "The Big Idea" on CNBC
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 12:14 PM by npincus
He is a very famous advertising exec, now hosts his own tv show. The guests are mainly ordinary people who came up with an idea and became wildly successful entrepeneurs. I once saw it when he had the 'Vitamin Water" inventor on- it was very interesting. I think he tries to inspire people to act on their ideas.

If you watched past seasons of "The Apprentice", Deutsch was on one week (contestants had to create a commercial for Dove Liquid Soap!).

He is either a Dem or Left-leaning... he's inferred uncomplimentary things about B*sh but you can see he tries to hold his tongue.

26. He is an adman
He turned his dad's small print-only agency into a hot creative boutique with blue chip clients and lots of awards, then sold it to a global communications firm for many, many millions. He is an oversized personality, an alpha male and an uber-dick who I would never want to work for but he's a Democrat and I'm happy to have on our side.

16. It certainly would be a nice "fuck you" to the departing Bush team, and
a sort of symbolic return to sanity.

Ideally, I'd like to see Bush impeached, and Gore elected.

22. And he is fostering the historically fascinating allure...
And he is fostering the historically fascinating allure of those who have been beseeched to seek power, but insisted that they did not want the job.

Surely, as an avid student of history, Al is aware that this will only enhance his appeal to reluctant supporters down the line.

It is my theory that, given the lesson learned from his bitter experience in the 2000 election that a clear majority vote is necessary to win in this divided culture, Gore will wait to see if his popularity is further enhanced as the announced winner of the Nobel Peace Prize in October, and if so, may very well strike and declare his candidacy when the iron is hot.
