Larry Flynt says he's already been deluged by more than 200 leads (80% of them on Republicans)
Porn king Flynt seeks information on sexual exploits of lawmakers
Carla Marinucci, Chronicle Political Writer

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

(06-06) 18:38 PDT -- "Hustler" publisher Larry Flynt - just days after posting a $1 million bounty for verifiable information on the sexual exploits of U.S. Congress members and political leaders -- says he's already been deluged by more than 200 leads pouring in from around the country, "80 percent of them on Republicans.''

"I'm not interested in exposing anyone's sex life,'' said Flynt, in a telephone interview with the San Francisco Chronicle Wednesday. "It's the hypocrisy I'm after. I think that if someone takes a public position contrary to their private life, they're fair game.''

snip...
He posted a full page ad in the Washington Post Sunday which offered a cool $1 million for any "documented evidence of intimate relations with a Congressperson, Senator or other prominent officeholder,'' information which must be verified and published in Hustler.

snip...
In 1998, he made a similar offer when former President Clinton faced impeachment by outraged Republicans after the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The result: GOP House Speaker elect Bob Livingston resigned after Flynt prepared to go public with an informant's details of his illicit affair. Flynt also released an affidavit by the wife of then-GOP Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia -- a pro-life conservative -- in which she said her husband paid for her abortion, and then took on a mistress.

"Everybody -- because I'm a civil libertarian -- thinks I'm going after Republicans. That's not true,'' he said Wednesday. Critics have said he's engaging in the politics of personal destruction, but "sometimes, it takes an ad like that, where you're offering big money, where you can flush out a lot of those political hacks.''

1. Personally, I'd Rather See Him Give The Money To Charity.
Throwing away a million dollars for sake of pointing at someone and saying "He's a hypocrite!" just seems to be a tad over the top.

5. Not me, because exposing these sanctimonious sacks of shit
who got elected on their superior morals and family values and have been using them to bludgeon Democrats for years will eventually do more for the needy than charity ever would by building so much disgust in the public that they'll stop voting against their own interest.

Flynt isn't your ordinary smut merchant. I sincerely hope he does manage to out some of these roaring hypocrites and get them out of office.

29. I had the privelege of meeting him once. Nice guy, actually.
I was kind of expecting a real sleazeball, you know LARRY FLYNT, owner of Penthouse Magazine...all that and a bag of chips.
He was in hospital for an infection. We got to talking, and he was very concerned about his daughter, who was a teenager then. He was a single dad, and being very careful about choosing his battles; "If she keeps her grades up and doesn't start smoking or drinking, then I guess I can deal with the punk look...".
In walks daughter, green mohawk, several piercings in BOTH ears (and this was way back when that was Far Limits Of Rebellion), but she very obviously loved her daddy, and he was just Larry Flynt, dad.

Phone rang while I was there and it was...ready for this?
Dr. Timothy Leary!
Larry Flynt and Dr. Timothy Leary and me...all in the same room!
:wow: "wow...(stammer stammer) honor to speak to you (stammer stammer) admire what you've done...uh, Mr. Flynt, it's for you, sir. Dr. Timothy Leary."

Good thing I'm a liberal or I'd never have appreciated the privelege.

53. I Sort of Met Him, Too
in the late 70s. I actually took room service to his suite at the Watergate (where I was working). An associate of his waved me into the kitchen and signed for the meal. I remember someone with frizzy hair and a kind of nasal voice sitting on the couch and talking with a very distinguished looking gentleman, who *(I kid you not) was saying "Do you think that when our forefathers penned the first amendment, they ever intended it to be used to degrade young women?"

It wasn't until I left the room and looked the check that I realized who it was. It was signed "Joe Smith FOR Larry Flynt."

16. If those who take him up on his 'offer'
want to give the money to charity, that's great!

Personally, I don't care who he 'busts'. Cheaters in a marriage are cheating, lying, pieces of shit who deserve to be exposed. And it doesn't matter if they are male, female or Republican, Democratic or if it's a male:male or female:female affair.

I have no idea how the Clintons marriage held up through all the public scrutiny but I made a vow for LIFE and when it was violated... it was over. Someone who is 'my' representative and is having or had an affair, no longer deserves my faith in them.

But any politician who publicly supports abstinence only and hires prostitutes, for example, is fair game.

It wasn't Larry Flynt that had the affair all he did was gather information on it. He didn't even publish it. Livingston did the deed yet wants to blame Flynt for it....typical Republican attitude.

35. but wouldn't it be nice - to discredit the current trend of politicking on
"morality" to appeal to voters while ignoring serious pubic policy issues? If he gets enough "hypocricy" exposures - perhaps finally more of the public will catch on that most of the "family values" morality posturing is pandering for votes and does nothing to make the country and its citizens stronger, safer, more economically secure, etc.? That result, imo, would be worthy of the $ spent.

36. Funny how some will never see the forest for the trees
There will be a lot more need for charity if those thugs are left in charge of government. You want to fight to give to charity then fight the root cause for needing it. IMO the current thugs in power are creating the greatest need for charitable giving than ever before was necessary. They are robbing the American people and giving the money to the very richest people on earth instead of benefiting Americans with Health Care, safe water and food, protecting our ports and water sources, etc. If it takes sex to get rid of these thugs then so be it..

65. Ummm Gee, I Dunno, Maybe Cause It's Completely Warped Logic?
Yes, Larry Flynt's bringing down of some of these people (if even) is going to drastically reduce the poverty rate. Are you seriously trying to make that claim with a straight face? Give me a friggin break.

Personally, I still find the premise of shelling out a million to be a bit over the top and still think that the money would be better spent going to charity. You don't and that's ok. But to see a reply of "Don't give the million to charity! Give it to fight the administration! If we knock down enough people poverty will be reduced greatly!" comes off as pretty ridiculous in premise to me.

Whichever people are nabbed, don't think for a second that it's gonna have an impact on the poverty rate. I like to live in reality. In reality that premise is just completely warped and silly. I stand by my assertion that the money would be far more helpful going to charity than a hypocrite search.

"fight the root cause for needing it"

81. I don't know....
there are an awful lot of hypocrites running this country, and sex seems to be the one thing that DOES bring them down. Starting illegal wars doesn't, spying doesn't, outing a CIA agent doesn't - sex does. I can see the logic, myself.

The republican party is filled with hypocrites, who preach at us, telling us what we should do or are allowed to do, telling us what is moral and right, talking the talk, but few of them walk the walk. If exposing their hypocrisy will bring them down, I'm all for it, and, really, they are the ones who take from the poor and give to the rich. Every one of them that goes down is a step in the right direction. Since 80% of the tips are about the repuke party, I think the logic is somewhat correct.

A million to charity wouldn't make much of a dent, either, sadly.

He has the battle scars from the hypocrisy gallery. That said, I want him to kick it up a notch and use his brilliance in arena by purchasing radio stations. He can change the face of the media by targeting the right electoral college states with Progressive Talk Radio.

Progressive Talk Radio worked in Ohio for the n06 Election...Ohio is now Blue. As a direct result of that election....Clear Channel removed all Progressive Talk Shows.

31. I won't like it, but if it's documented it's fair game. Pardon me while I shudder.
If Flynt gets more than three or four "bites" with this bait, he almost has to throw a Democrat into the PR factory just to show he's non partisan.

Flynt still give me the creeps, but if we can bankroll Mossad and the IDF with all the bad shit they do to protect their country, I suppose Flynt deserves a few first amendment rights himself. I still wanna shower every time he helps us. Flynt and the Republicans deserve each other.

48. Oh, hell no!
based on past performance, that is. Remeber Bob Livingston? Forced to resign as Speaker of the House because Flynt found he ahd more girlfirends than fingers and toes?

The issue for Flynt is acquiring iron-clad "proof" of the naughty behavior before he goes public. I do believe he may choose not to disclose everything he gets-- his mission is to go after the hypocrites only. Since the Repukes are the self-proclaimed, finger-wagging G-d party, the Party of Morality, I think they will go to the head of the line!

LOVE it!

waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay back in the day when Larry was starting out in Dayton.

Makes me proud to be a Dayton boy!

70. Because he's smarter than politicians
He nailed the timing of his last outing to put a boot on the throat of the Republican Revolution. He sees the public tide far better than the gentle flowers of the DP do, and knows that he'll get a lot of pay off for this investment.

Mark my words, this will improve Dem performance in '08, and will probably turn a sweep into a rout.

The key to campaign politics - it's practically a hidden secret of the universe these days - is to ruin the morale of the other side using honest, ethical means; make the knuckleheads, addicted to FauxNews like an opiate, see the truth about themselves and their leaders.

You have to be able to think like a Republican to get this. The right worships their leaders like they love their daddies. (Meaning, they could care less about democracy, policy and public good. Daddy will take care of everything). But at least they stfu when you point out that their daddy is an abusive deviant bum.

71. Don't forget Flynt also outed Bush's abortion...
On CNN's Crossfire on October 20, 2000, Larry Flynt exploded a bombshell: that he has evidence that George W. Bush was "involved in an abortion in Texas" in the early 1970's - when abortions were still illegal.

Here are the details, as reported by Bartcop:

In the winter of 1971 George W. Bush was dating a woman named Robin Lowman (now Robin Garner). Miss Lowman became pregnant by Smirk and he arranged for her to have an abortion - which in the great state of Texas in 1971 was very illegal! Not to mention that George W. is running as a pro-life candidate for the presidency.

The unnamed source of this story, was a friend of Robin Lowman's and the girlfriend of the man who arranged the abortion. His name is Robert Carl Chandler. Chandler is a Bush friend and supporter from way back and he made the arrangements for Miss Lowman's abortion at the Twelve Oaks Hospital in Houston, TX (now the Bayou City Medical Center). The source overheard the call by Mr. Chandler to arrange the abortion and the source visited Robin Lowman at the Twelve Oaks Hospital after the procedure.

The source meanwhile, is afraid of coming forward, saying that she was threatened by Chandler and another Bush friend and supporter named Jim Bath. Bath has longstanding intelligence connections, and played a role in the BCCI scandal. Robin Lowman (now Garner) is married to Jerry Lee Garner who is an FBI agent.

So, that's the story: an illegal back room abortion arranged by the Republican party Presidential candidate who is running on a pro-life ticket.

CNN later went on to scrub its own story (like, within 24 hours). More at link...
