Sure wouldn't know that by listening to the US media. They keep saying it is a hot-button issue right up there with Iraq when I hear them banter on about it constantly. Something doesn't smell right here.

8. To create an issue that Republicans can run on.
Financial stewardship? No.
War in Iraq? No
Crisis Management (Katrina)? No.

Immigration? Yes! Create a bogus problem that deals with the the bottom 3% who have no money or political power. That's a great distraction! Get the Republican media to broadcast the issue night and day until everyone thinks it is the most pressing problem we have. Build a big wall around the United States...we can call it a prison.

11. Disagree.
It isn't just a distraction.

Posit: the media leans GOP.

Query: if they lean GOP, why would they push an issue guaranteed to shatter the GOP coalition if a fight really starts?

Conclusion: It isn't a distraction.

4. More enlightening would be the percentage by party,
Democrat, Republican, independent. It may be a hot button issue for Republicans, but not others. Just as healthcare is an important issue for Democrats, but Republicans do not pay much attention to it compared to other issues (such as immigration, terror, be afraid, be afraid).

5. Nothing to see here. Move along.
Please don't look at the man behind the curtain.

You're not suposed to be aware of these diversions.

Terra plots, immigration, flag burning, gay marriage. These are CLEARLY the most important issues in America.............to keep you distracted from w's crimes, lies and wars.

10. That's because a lot more than that think it's the second or third most important issue
Right after abortion and guns.

Also, consider the fact that the states where people do put in the top three most important list live in AZ, CO, NM, TX and especially Cal-ee-fornia.

AZ, CO and NM aren't densly populated, so a small group can throw more weight...which translates into lost Senate seats and lost Electoral College votes if this goes bad for the GOP.

CA and TX are where the problem telegraphs into media and society from, because they have larger budgeting problems from the issue. And the combined EC votes for both is a hell of a big biscuit.

It isn't just a distraction.

Posit: the media leans GOP.

Query: if they lean GOP, why would they push an issue guaranteed to shatter the GOP coalition if a fight really starts?

Conclusion: It isn't a distraction.

12. It will get more important
Mexico's oil field is almost played out. The country will lose those funds to run the govt. Mass migration is going to happen if jobs are not produced.
Enviromentally this country does not have the resources to absorb so many people.
These are my two big worries.

13. According to Harry Reid, the immigration issue is dead
What does that mean for the GOP? Are the majority of Republicans happy?

14. Fox is cutting back its Iraq coverage. CNN has Lou Dobbs on 24/7 yammering on about "illegals"
The Iraqi puppet government won't allow reporters to do their job. More soldiers and Iraqis are dying now more than ever.

But this immigration crap is not a diversion?

Who am I going to believe? Fox news and Lou Dobbs or my lying eyes?
