1. Bono looks like he's serious and Bush refuses to take him
seriously. It's rather insulting.

8. No, Bono is an activist, and he squeezes money out of powerful men
to stop extreme poverty in Africa with a combination of charm, flattery, and shaming. He hates the Iraq War, but doesn't talk about it much (unless asked), because that would dry up the money to help extremely poor people in Africa. He knows he has to deal with weak characters like Bush, but he is on a mission.

13. Bono knows how to grease the monkey
...and who can blame him? Right now, all we have is Bono, Clooney, Brangelina, et al, in Africa. I don't care whose ass they have to kiss to get the humanitarian aid in there! Go Bono, Go!

non-negotiable. Damn. Non-negotiable, oh F, me! What did I sign, again?

6. Bono doesn't appear to be making eye contact with Shrub in any
pic here, but Bush* has his hands on Bono. I don't get how bono can stand it.

11. Tell that to the kids in Africa who have been helped by Bono's work.
You know there is political partisanship and there is advocacy for the poorest people on Earth. It is a greater Cause than one bad American president. I can't believe you don't understand that Bono MUST meet with the POTUS, whoever that may be, to continue to get aid to Africa. Just like all leaders of other nations have to meet with Pres. Bush. So you're saying that if a prime minister from Canada poses for a picture with Bush that he is an embarrassment? Because that is the type of role Bono is playing.

24. My dislike for Bono is well known here, and is not limited to giving war criminals photo ops.
He and his shitty band jet around the world in their private jets and never seem to miss finding the lens end of the camera, covers of Time magazine, and cavorting with the GOP (many besides the War Criminal in Chief). If that weren't enough, he claims to hold some place in Rock music, but never can seem to find the roots of that music -- its arising as an expression of protest against an illegal war. I still haven't seen him wield his star power and music might to set up a few outdoor concerts in protest of the war this Summer. Can you imagine the grass roots explosion for such an event? He could even stage a concert in Germany with those protesting the G8. But no, instead he makes his little plays for the poor (a nice, non-divisive, non-risky, palatable cause) and cavorts with war criminals and torturing murderers currently carrying out a massively unjust, illegal, torturous and murderous war.

Yes, what an embarrassment.

10. Maybe a year or two has changed Bono's mind. I certainly hope so.
It does look like it. Facial expressions and body language say it all.

14. Um, do you know much about Bono? I found this quickly about
U2 views on the Iraq War:

http://www.u2faqs.com/history/g.html

I like this quote Bono made about Tony Blair:

His most famous war-related quote is probably one about Tony Blair: "Tony Blair is not going to war for oil. Tony Blair is sincere in his convictions about Iraq," Bono said. "In my opinion he (Blair) is sincerely wrong."

It also said that they attended (albeit quietly) anti-war protests in Ireland before the war started.

I can't find the link but I read in Rolling Stone when Bono said he was against the Iraq War, but because of his African activism, was not speaking out which would hurt his chances of getting help for Africa. The numbers of deaths in Africa caused by extreme poverty are higher than the Iraq War.

18. BeachMom, I'm not certain what you are saying. I suggested that maybe
Bono was not much of a Bush fan anymore. At one time he did appear to be, although I'm certain he was doing so on behalf of Africa and because he really did care about what happened in New York.\\

I pretty much agree with everything you have to say, no argument here. Oh and yes, we know just a little about Bono.

15. I agree
The body language says everything. He is detached. He is noncommital. bush, who is supposed to be good at reading body language, senses this and that is why he is all over Bono.

The second set of Bono/bush pics were taken earlier and I believe he has changed his mind since then. The body language is not quite so pronounced.

It is really interesting to see the difference. Now practically everyone would like to dump bush, even his fellow republicans.

I have enormous respect for him. He doesnt care about politics and will even make friends with Bush in order to help those that really need it. Oh and I love his music.

19. Yes
And he doesn't "josh around" with Bush while doing it. Bono is getting his good work done and not letting himself be used as a prop by Bush. Pretty neat trick in my book!

Of course, if Gandhi thought it would advance the cause of peace and nonviolence, he would have done it, too.
