Retired anchor (Bernard) Shaw laments effects of Fox on his beloved CNN
Source: Chicago Sun-Times

For two decades -- until his retirement in 2001 -- Bernard Shaw was the front-and-center face of CNN.

As one of its original anchors, the Chicago native set the tone for serious, insightful journalism on television's first 24-hour cable news operation.

So it pains him deeply to see what has become of the proud brand he helped create.

Asked what he now thinks of CNN, Shaw told WTTW-Channel 11's John Callaway: "I try not to. I'm very, very disappointed with the way the news management at my favorite network has gone. CNN has fine women and men working there. Lou Dobbs, one of the leaders there.

"Unfortunately, Fox News is the ratings leader . . . on the cable side of the business, and what Fox puts on the air is not news."

2. "Lou Dobbs, one of the leaders there."
An unrepentant liar and xenophobe.

Yep, someone to look up to.

3. Sorry - but I totally agree with Lou on ILLEGAL aliens...
He's correct on that issue, and I support him 100 percent...

4. Then you support lying "journalists"
Not only does Dobbs KNOW that he's been proven to have presented false statements of fact- but he REFUSES to correct the record.

What a guy- this aside from being a xenophobe.

6. Lou just picked "illegal immigration" as his cause celeb to
try to reposition himself after his pathetic cheerleading in the Iraq War runup. He thinks he's saving America when in actuality he was one of those who truly screwed it up.

7. two decades or not...
...I have one memory of Bernard Shaw, and that was his shameful, embarrassing gushing over Ronald Reagan. On election night in 1988, when Dukakis was defeated by Bush I, Shaw went on and on in the most slavishly disgusting way about how "we're seeing the end of an era as one of the greatest presidents this country has ever seen retires from the White House." I'm still cleaning up the puke. Whatever CNN has become, he had a hand in it.
