Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) starts his hearings on the Constitution in Crisis today:
http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/014509.php

Later today Representative Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), Chairman of the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution, Civil Rights and Civil Liberties, will hold the first in a series of oversight hearings titled, "The Constitution in Crisis: The State of Civil Liberties in America," delving into such issues as the NSA's domestic wiretapping program. Earlier this week we caught up with Congressman Nadler (he's TPM's congressman, after all), and in today's episode of TPMtv we talk with him about warrantless wiretapping, the politicization of the Justice Department, and that dusty old constitutional concept known as congressional oversight ...

3. While it is good to have these hearings I have yet to see anything come from them
Gonzo lied to Congress and that is documented. He is still there practicing his thuggery. Condi refused to be subpoenaed and is still practicing her thuggery. The Bush* Cabal has refused to turn over documents to Congress and the thuggery continues. Cheney says he is immune from anything and the thuggery continues. I don't think these hearing are going to accomplish a thing except to buy more time for this criminal Cabal..It is all for show and absolutely nothing will be done..Just like their big soundbites on how they were going to hold Bush*"s feet to the fire..Bush* asks and Bush* receives and Democrats say it is all according to their plan and they have dry powder..

9. These hearings are not much different than Nixon's impeachment
hearings. If they can find someone like John Dean who comes clean then something will happen, until then they dig and collect evidence before the evidence is destroyed. One other good comes from these hearings - if we can get the news out they help wake people up. Further, these are oversight hearings - that is what the committees are supposed to do. In the last congress they failed miserably in their duty to the people of the United States.
