Fox News: We're sorry, again
like we didn't know that the first time around :eyes:

New York — Fox News Channel issued a second on-air apology Wednesday for mistakenly running tape of a different congressman while reporting on the indictment of Rep. William J. Jefferson on bribery charges.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers of Michigan, whose picture aired while Fox anchors talked Monday about Jefferson's indictment, had been unhappy with Fox's apology Tuesday. Both congressmen are black.

Conyers was reportedly upset that Fox's first apology was nonspecific and didn't mention he was the victim.

On Wednesday, Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum explained to viewers that a production assistant picked up a tape that had been identified as a meeting about Jefferson. The picture showed Conyers.

"We regret this mistake," MacCallum said. "We in no way meant to suggest that there was any connection between the Jefferson indictment and Congressman Conyers. We have extended our apology privately to the congressman and we do so here as well."

A Conyers spokeswoman had no comment about the second apology.

1. How curious that all the Fox \"mistakes\" ...
paint Democrats in a negative fashion. It never seems to happen the other way around.

2. They never did apologize for calling the 2000 election for Bush
especially when the screens were full of votes for Gore in Florida ...

3. I halfway expect they will "apologize" by replacing Conyers' pic with Al Jolson in blackface
That would be about their speed.

6. Either a major news organization is being sloppy
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 12:20 PM by swimmernsecretsea
or they're doing it on purpose. Either way, it doesn't make them look very good.

9. It's Like A Correction On Page 47
They can apologize for the next 6 months and it won't matter...the stereotype was placed and the "error" itself got a lot more eyes than the original report. But wasn't that the original intent? While Faux feed the red meat to the cro-magnons, it's getting the video on YouTube and spread around by creating a controversy is where the game is played.

There's no doubt, the wingnuts were doing handsprings about Jefferson finally getting indicted (many of us were happy this thing finally is coming to a head as well)...but it was to serve a far broader purpose...the one that Faux and the right wing spin machine have long perpetuated. It's what Rushbo calls "the plantation"...the image of blacks as being corrupt and lazy...a modern-day upgrade on Stepen Fetchit...and as total puppets of the Democrats. They've long broad-brushed blacks and any chance they can use the race card as red meat it's bonus points for Faux.

Ya think they're co-sponsoring a debate with the CBC because they're concerned about civil rights or class warfare?
