Toensing: Libby is victim of over-zealous prosecutor; he should be freed
Is she now admitting that Plame/Wilson was covert?

http://www.usatoday.com/printedition/news/20070607/oppose07.art.htm

Pardon is only remedy
Libby is victim of over-zealous prosecutor; he should be freed.

By Victoria Toensing

Patrick Fitzgerald abused his prosecutorial powers when he indicted Scooter Libby for a faulty memory. The only remedy is a presidential pardon.

From the day he took office as the unsupervised special counsel, Fitzgerald knew that Richard Armitage had first revealed to Robert Novak the fact that the spouse of administration critic Joe Wilson worked at the CIA. He also knew that Libby had never spoken to Novak about Valerie Plame.

...

Fitzgerald learned early on that no one who discussed Plame's CIA connection was ever warned she was covert. Thus, an element necessary for indictment — knowledge — was absent. If there had been knowledge of this fact, Armitage would have been indicted. But Fitzgerald claimed he had to continue the investigation because he was looking for a conspiracy to reveal Plame's identity. Of course, Armitage and the vice president's office barely spoke and rarely agreed. Conspiring was not a factor in their relationship.

Fitzgerald excused others whose sworn-to memories were as bad, if not worse, than Libby's. Ari Fleischer, former White House spokesman, testified he had not told Washington Post reporter Walter Pincus that Wilson's wife worked at the CIA. Pincus swore he did and had his notes to prove it. Fleischer had immunity, but not from false testimony.

Fitzgerald called a news conference on the date of Libby's indictment and violated prosecutorial ethics by talking beyond the four corners of the written charges. Knowing full well there was no underlying crime, he hinted that Libby prevented him from finding one, even suggesting criminality by Dick Cheney. "There's a cloud over the vice president," he later said. How so? There was no crime to cloud over.

21. wouldn't just "tired old liar"
or a few more non-sexist pejoratives be okay?

ya know, i think Tom DeLay is an ugly whore too, but let's face it, these are words that are most often used to keep women silent. i don't like Miss Vicky either, but "tired old liar" is sufficient.

thanks.

26. She is a Republican whore. She does whatever she is told to do.
If you saw her testimony before Congress, you know this is true. There is no other description that truly describes her.

I don't see whore as a gender specific description. Men can be whores as well.

"prostitute" or "hustler" (as in, Ted Haggard's masseuse) can be viewed as somewhat gender-neutral, but "whore" almost always is seen as a sexist pejorative that is demeaning to females.

"lying Republican hustler" sounds fine to me. "ugly whore" was not necessary. tacking "ugly" in front of it ensures the sexist tone of the insult.

i've been following some of the DU threads of late where this topic is being discussed, most recently in the context of Cindy Sheehan. i agree with many of the posters on those threads, in that progressives should not foster sexist language that is intended to be specifically demeaning to women. it's time for that to stop. i don't care if we're talking about Condi Rice, Ann Coulter, Vicky Toensing... OR Cindy Sheehan. insults that demean women specifically are wrong and DU is not the place for them.

on edit: Oxford defines "whore" as noun (derogatory): a prostitute or promiscuous woman. i think that's enough justification of the term as a female pejorative.

i've laughed my ass off at Randi Rhodes calling Ann Coulter a "hoo-ah" in her best Brooklynese, as i also grew up there, where i learned all kinds of juicy insults. but really, it's time for progressives in written discourse to use better descriptions of those we do not approve of, than just relying on the good old standbys used since time immemorial to silence women.

37. There are additional definitions.
Whore - A person considered as having compromised principles for personal gain.

Prostitute - One who sells one's abilities, talent, or name for an unworthy purpose.

My comments were not intended to be demeaning to women in general, as I have great respect for women. However, where certain women, such as Ms. Toensing, Dr. Rice, Ann Coulter, etc., are concerned, they have placed themselves in the public venue, and made comments or performed actions that are often very deserving of unflattering remarks.

I feel they are fair game, based on their own comments and actions.

And "ugly" is not exclusively used to describe a person's appearance. A person can be ugly based on their beliefs, attitudes, actions, and thoughts. Candy Crowley of CNN is an ugly woman in my opinion. It has nothing to do with her personal appearance, but with her right wing reporting. Cass Elliot, on the other hand, was a beautiful woman because she had the ability to bring joy to others and a talent that she used to entertain. There is a difference.

Ann Coulter appears on television early in the morning wearing a short, low cut, black cocktail dress. That sounds like a whore to me, in every sense of the word. And when you consider the vicious comments that have come out of her mouth, I think she's very deserving of the description.

38. It also has
an old history of being associated with both men and women who put worldly goods before truth in their personal lives. It is used to describe those who "whore after other gods" in religious/esoteric texts. In that sense, the word is an apt description of Victoria T.

9. She'll Keep Lying Until The Corporate Media Shuts Her Up
Who would give a shit what this sheister/political hack says or thinks...that is because the corporate media allows her to echo her lies constantly with little to no rebuking.

In a "true and just world", Toesucking would be brought onto Timmeh's Tree House and confronted with all her lies...and there's decades worth to wade through...and then exiled to the pundit limbo where any and all liars and constantly wrong talking heads should go. Instead, we're about to get treated to another round of "don't believe the law, believe me".

20. She's partly right - knowledge was definitely missing
So the reason that Libby lied & obstructed justice is because he didn't realize Plame was covert. He lied & obstructed justice which is what he was convicted of & why he's going to the House of Many Doors.

One might ask why he lied if he didn't realize Plame was covert but one wouldn't care unless they were Toensing, Queen of the Red Herrings.

He lied to the prosecutor & obstructed justice. Can't someone make her write that 500 times until it sinks in or she gets a callous? :eyes:

http://foi.missouri.edu/iipa/plamegate.html

Rove, Bush and Cheney knew they were playing with fire when they targeted Plame. Cheney had told Libby that Plame worked at the CIA's counterproliferation division. Cheney knew.

And Victoria is a pathetic apologist for them.
