Republican Punches Democrat on Floor of Alabama Senate
Edited on Thu Jun-07-07 04:04 PM by kpete
Sen. Bishop “Coldcocks” Sen. Barron
Filed under: AL Senate — Danny @ 3:14 pm
Sen. Charles Bishop (R - Arley) “coldcocks” Sen. Lowell Barron (D - Fyffe) on the Senate floor a few minutes ago.

Sen. Pat Lindsey (D - Butler) was sitting in the Chair when the Senate decided to recess. Reportedly, Bishop and Barron were cursing each other when Bishop “knocked Barron across a desk” and “tried to choke him,” according to a source in the Senate chamber. Security had to break them up.

Apparently there was frustration over the order in which bills were being considered, and the Senate recessed to work out the frustration.

Bishop was already known as the last Senator to take a swing at another on the Senate floor, and now apparently he has gone one better. And this is not the first time Senate security has separated Bishop from another Senator this session.

4. Bishop had a BIG problem with Alabama apologizing for slavery.
He's the type that really misses those lynchin' days...

12. Cripes, Bishop looks exactly like what he is,
a slack jawed, half witted inbred. He could have been typecast in a film about any fascist backlash to any progressive movement, although he'd need to put on a few pounds to play a sheriff.

The other man looks more like the face of the new south. At least there is expression in his eyes.

I hope assault charges will follow. Neither man sounded particularly gentlemanly, but sticks and stones blah blah blah.

for his official website. A "slack Jaw" mouth open picture.

A Good Republican Conservative would never do such a thing :sarcasm:

14. Off to the Greatest Page with thee!
If this wasn't so horrible, I would be laughing.

If Bishop makes a habit of hitting people, like the article implies, then he should be thrown in jail for a few years to cool off.

15. What makes it even funnier is that the Alabama New State House is a white marble bldg.
The chambers look like something out of a high tech board room, vaugely like the Star Ship Enterprise bridge (the one with Patrick Stewart, not Capt. Kirk).

Oh, we've had some real winners in the Alabama House and Senate. Just another good reason not to cross the Tennessee River except for a shopping trip to the Galleria in Bham or to Tuscaloosa or the beach.

I prefer to stay within jogging distance of the state line with Tennessee, myself . . . where the people are largely sane and don't use ketchup in bbq sauce or vote Republican.

18. Hello! Here in North Alabama we used vinager based sauce.
And I would much better be in Huntsville, Al then among the slack jawed across the state line in Tennessee. All this Alabama bashing gets tiresome. Other states are just as bad or worse but since we had George Wallace the spotlight is always on us.

20. My measure of civility: hot slaw offered with the bbq and vinegar based sauce.
My grandmother once referred my cousin's move to Hoover when she was in grad school in Samford as "living somewhere way down in South Alabama, Hoover, I think." Note that Hoover is in Jeffco, leaving only Blount, Cullman, then Morgan and Lawrence between us in Lauderdale only 95 miles or so away. My exile in Montgomery was unbearable, I could find nothing to recommend the city at all, not even sushi, and I was used to Huntsvegas and Florence, so . . .

22. Sorry...can't resist: Ohhhh, ohhhhh....Alabama...
The devil fools
with the best laid plan.
Swing low Alabama
You got spare change
You got to feel strange
And now the moment
is all that it meant.

Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track

Oh Alabama
Banjos playing
through the broken glass
Windows down in Alabama.
See the old folks
tied in white ropes
Hear the banjo.
Don't it take you down home?

Alabama, you got
the weight on your shoulders
That's breaking your back.
Your Cadillac
has got a wheel in the ditch
And a wheel on the track

Oh Alabama.
Can I see you
and shake your hand.
Make friends down in Alabama.
I'm from a new land
I come to you
and see all this ruin
What are you doing Alabama?
You got the rest of the union
to help you along
What's going wrong?

27. Fear not my neighbor. Georgia will always come along to make you guys look good
We have the crazy Harry Potter lady trying to get the books banned from her kid's school library (again) after being told 5 times by various courts that they should be there.

Um...we have TB guy.

And we have a governor who wants to spend millions of dollars on an ad campaign in neighboring states to talk about bass fishing, but we can't fund PeachCare to insure the state's poor children.

We will always be here to make you guys look better.

:)
