Check Out This Crackpot Email Chain Letter I Got
LOVE THIS COMEBACK...

One of my sons serves in the military.
He is stationed stateside, here in
**California**. He called me yesterday
to let me know how warm and
welcoming people were to him and his
troops everywhere they go. Telling
me how people shake their hands and
thank them for being willing to serve
and fight, not only our own freedoms but
so that others may have them too.

Then he told me about an incident in the
grocery store he stopped at
yesterday, on his way home from the
base. He said that several people were
in the line ahead of him, including a
woman dressed in a burkha.

He said when she got to the cashier, she
made a loud remark about the
**U.S.** Flag, lapel pin, the cashier
wore on her smock. The cashier
reached up and touched the pin and said,
"Yes, I always wear it proudly,
because I'm an American."

The woman in the burkha then asked the
cashier when she was going to stop
bombing her countrymen, explaining that
she was Iraqi.

Then, a gentleman standing behind my son
stepped forward, putting his arm
around my son's shoulders and nodding
towards my son, said in a calm and
gentle voice to the Iraqi woman: "Lady,
hundreds of thousands of men and
women like this young man have fought
and died so that YOU could stand
here, in MY country and accuse a
check-out cashier of bombing YOUR
countrymen. It is my belief that had
you been this outspoken in YOUR own
country, we wouldn't need to be there
today. But, hey, if you have now
learned how to speak out so loudly and
clearly, I'll gladly buy you a
ticket and pay your way back to
**Iraq**, so you can straighten out the
mess in YOUR country, that you are
obviously here in MY country to avoid."

Everyone within hearing distance
cheered!

IF YOU AGREE... Pass this on to all of
your proud American friends.AND DON'T NEED OTHERS
FROM ALIEN COUNTRIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just did.

I'm sorry, but this one qualifies as less than stupid in my book.

1. I'm not an expert in Iraqi religious countries
but I did not know that burquas were worn there. I thought that was a Taliban thing.

4. They were actually fairly enlightened under Saddam, especially about women.
Burka's didn't become common there until AFTER we took down the Saddam-meister and the religious fundies could get some traction.

This story has made the rounds before. I believe it has been debunked. It sounds very like RW propaganda to me.

6. It does sound like propaganda, or what somebody
wished they had said.

So they are wearing them in Iraq now as well?

7. It's Afghan, only, and predated the Taliban among the
hyper religious. It's just one of the many glaring problems with this email.

This thing seems to hit DU an average of about every 4 days.

Snopes might eventually get around to it, but my guess is that it is the fantasy of some knuckle dragging, snuff juice drooling, cousin marrying, half witted, foul mouthed, poorly educated, world hater of a Freeptard who was offended some day because he saw a woman wearing a simple head scarf.

15. Hmmm....
Sooner or later I'll get that one too. There is a guy I know who passes along all RW mendacities.

"...the fantasy of some knuckle dragging, snuff juice drooling, cousin marrying, half witted, foul mouthed, poorly educated, world hater of a Freeptard..."

would it be OK if I included that part in my answer?

9. Actually
I replied "This is a bunch of bullshit" to the person who sent it to me. I've been sending her links from DU, Common Dreams, AlterNet, etc. for some time.

I'm not stupid, nor has my stay been or going to be short. Thanks for your kind thoughts.

12. Welcome to DU Crud76 !! I, for one, had not heard......
...of this "Incident"

We get these stories every so often.

I think we even had one where Bush put his arm around a deeply disturbed Soldier...
..and Bush Cried.

Aw...yeah...I believe that. :eyes:

10. Sounds like something you would hear on Paul Harvey.
BTW is he still alive?

13. More stupid than Harvey (if that's possible).
& the jury is still out on that alive or dead thing.

That piece reads almost identically to the ones in the past, the little flags in the restaurant one for example. I'll bet the same asshole writes them all.

20. That's right.
And then there was the one about the wife of a serviceman who went to eat at their favorite restaurant after he was deployed and overheard a bunch of liberals talking about the war is the crass way that only liberals can do and she told them off and got a standing ovation. I use to frequent (and even moderate) a Marine parents board before I couldn't stomach the pro-Bush views any more and these posts, considered non-political, made the rounds many times.

16. Hm. We have LOTS AND LOTS of people from the ME here in my
area, and I have NEVER ONCE seen any of the women in a burkha or anything close to it, lol. Scarf on head, long sleeves and longish skirts, yes. But nary a burkha. They live here so they don't HAVE too, lol. And yes, I even know an Iraqi woman or two.
